What are the META list for Store Championships?

By EvilEd209, in Star Wars: Armada

So, I just recently got into Armada and it is a great game!

I have been slowly building up both my Rebel and Imperial fleets (as my Son and I both play, I like Imps, he likes Rebs so it works out) and I now own a minimum of one of everything, with three addition Neb Bs for the upgrades and three of each fighter packs.

I mostly have been just tossing lists together for fun to see what works and what looks cool on the table, but I have Store Championships coming up and I like to have an idea of what are some common builds, how are they work, and what are the most common build for the factions to watch out for?

General list ideas and discussion will work.

A imperial Screed list with a bunch of upgrades that trigger on critical effects is a great imperial build. Have ships with things like ACMs, overload pulse, assault proton torpedoes, etc. You can use screed to guarantee these every attack. I really like this build because of all the evil fun things that critical effects do.

Excelent. Would you mind providing me with a sample Screed list? What would you run?

Expect Squadrons.

Don't expect that 3 A-Wings will be sufficient to stop them.

Yeah, this is such a minefield topic...

The Meta for your Local Store Championship is your Local Meta.

What I expect at my Champs in Calgary is probably going to be different to what I'd see at the Store Champs up in Edmonton...

If people are expecting to be winning, then you'll expect to see them flying what is familiar to them.

But trying to make guessing comments overall about the overall state of an overall meta that doesn't exist, or even if it did, is virtually impossible to define is very much a lesson in futility...

I for one, feel I have to expect everything.

2x or 3x Large Ship

5 Small Ship

7x TRC Corvettes

Rhymer Balls, both Vanilla and Cinnamon

Massed Rebel Squadrons

Rieekan Frigates and Elite Squadrons

Motti Walls of Pizza.

You name it.

Our last store champion was shmitty (such hard competition!) and he had 4 CR90 A's and and 2 MC30's with Mon Mothma.

We have another SC this Sunday and I am hoping to win that one but it will depends on how many people who show up.

Rebels:

MC80, 2 X assault frigates

Small ship spam (CR90s with turbolaser reroute circuits, MC30s with assault proton torpedoes and ordnance experts)

Nebulon-Bs with Yavaris pushing heavy bombers

YT-2400s

Empire:

2 X ISD

1 X ISD, 2 X GSD

Rhymerballs or Fireballs (to clarify: a big ball of squadrons with Major Rhymer for medium range shots; the Fireball adds rogue Firesprays for extra fun)

Most people take a lot of squadrons, and overinvest in my opinion. There is a lot of variety out there, more so with the Rebels as most Imperial players tend to favour the ISD-2 and GSD-1 as they are the 'best'.

Unlike x wing armada has no real Meta yes there are copy cat lists and fame Admirals see more play then others but this is a game of strategy and adaptability having a Meta list is no help unless you know what to do with it.

Get some games in flying what you like and work out witch objectives work for you and witch don't that's probably the best starting point

Rhymer Balls, both Vanilla and Cinnamon

Motti Walls of Pizza.

Can I get a translator, table three?

Still getting used to the terms you guys use

On the Rebel side :

- 3 Assault Frigates MK 2 with Ackbar will be quite common

- TRC Corvette Swarm

- Multiple MC30s

- YT-2400 in large numbers

- Tanky MC80

- Fighter Bombers with Dodonna

On the Imperial side :

- Gladiator/Raider spam

- ISD with Gunnery Team/XI7

- Rhymerballs and Fireballs for sure

- The odd 4 Victory list

I think the general Rock Paper Scissor will still apply :

Full Ship > Few Fighters > Numerous Fighters > Full ships

Things you can be almost sure you won't see :

- Nebulon Bs

- The odd Victory in a list

- Bossk/YV-666

Rhymer Balls, both Vanilla and Cinnamon

Motti Walls of Pizza.

Motti Wall of Pizza cab mean the Triple ISD lists with Motti. It is desired due to having 42 hull and 36 shields to eat through.

The different flavors of Rhymerballs are based on the traditional vs fireball (Rhymer with Firesprays)

Traditional being TIE Bomberball?

Traditional being TIE Bomberball?

gotcha - cheers :)

Honestly, and this is a high five from me to Armada and its designers, while having a "good" list is important, what is more important is knowing how to maneuver your ships and predict your enemy's movement. I would also say deploying strategically is as important as list building. /rant

For my local meta, I won a store championship with 3 TRC90s and 2 MC30s and the other champion had a Victory-1 and two Glads with a Rhymerspray ball.

There's no #1 list that'll take all comers like there used to be with the GenCon special. There's a wide field of various lists that are all awesome in their own ways - the important thing is to find one you like and get comfortable with it.

Heck, even here you've seen folks say that Neb-B's aren't that great anymore but both first and second place at our last tournament ran them. (9 damage with Salvation + Intel Officer on your brace => fun times for me!)

I love the Neb, I frequently run 2 in my Rebel lists to great effect, so I'm glad you're using them :D Speaking of unplanned match ups, I'm actually seriously thinking of running 2 Victory SD, just because they've fallen out of favour and nobody expects to play against them anymore in my area.

What I'm seeing locally:

MC80 / MC30 / Neb + B's / Elite X's (Reeikan)

ISD2 / ISD2 / Raider + Fighters (Ozzel)

AFII / MC30c+TRC / CR90+TRC / CR90B + Fighters (Dodonna)

"Literally just Clon's list from the World Cup" (GRRRR)

MC80 / AFII / Neb + Jan'd X's (Garm)

Plus my unholy abomination of:

VSD2 / GSD1 / Demo / Raider1 + Fighters (Tarkin)

As somebody told above, a little difference could change the list. A thing I really found between the most interesting things about armada is the evolution. I begun with my friend a cunning escalation and it probably never ends.

I begun putting a demolisher on the table, he puy the whale with advanced projectors...H9...ECM...H9 out... b-wings...swarm screen...ISD-I...home one...isd-II with ECM... ackbar with gunnery teams...VSD-I and fireball boosted... galant haven and tons of wings...

Lately we got a break thanks to the growing community. They are mostly newbies but gothic veterans. We don't have a meta unless you could consider the widespread use of Ackbar as the meta. Anyway, at the local tournament we played, we were 5 imps - 5 rebs with Screed, Motti and Ozzel (this one just myself) and Ackbar and Garm (just one but a nice surprise). Ships... IVR, II, IVV, IVG, IGRR (mine), and for rebels 80-cor-neb, 2mark-neb, mark-30-neb and I can't remember more buy variety for sure. All this list with heavy screen fighters, medium fighters, few fighters.

It was the first tournament but I can easily imagine most of the local tournaments being similar.

All very helpful guys! Thanks!

I have a month between now and the Store Championship. I really wanted to nail down a list for myself and my son and play it out so we learn the game and are ready for the event.

Thanks for all the help.
