What to use with the Outrider?

By Lord Khurz, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I plan to start playing X Wing. I was thinking about a list using the Yt-2400. Any suggestions?

Outrider is commonly paired at round 60 points with a single high-points-value ace such as Poe Dameron or Corran Horn, or at around 50 points with another large-base ship.

Most common build of outrider is probably superdash - Heavy Laser Cannon, Outrider title, Push the Limit, Kyle Katarn (soon to be replaced by Kanan Jarrus) Engine Upgrade. Paired with Dash's ability to ignore rocks and debris when moving, this gives you a huge amount of repositioning options. Vulnerable to higher pilot skills though.

Pair it with e.g. Poe/Veteran Instincts/R5P9/Autothrusters.

Part of me wonders if I'm crazy to try and pair Dash with a loaded out Jan Ors.

Standard Super-Dash, then Jan with VI, Crow, RecSpec, TLT, and EU.

Seems like it'd be a really annoying list to fly against, with Dash regularly pumping out five dice shots.

Why on earth should i replace kyle with kanan?

Kanan give bollocs to Dash. Whites? Why the hell should i do whites if i got those sick BR and Boost? If you play right you should have one of those actions free for target lock anyway. If not...hell enjoy your free focus.

As for builds:

Besides superDash you can do RetardedSuperDash : Wired/Leebo/Experimental Interface/Title/HLC that comes up 4 points cheaper. Not much but allows you to pair its with some decent Falcon for example, while not loosing TOO much power of superDash.

Another recently common YT2400 build is Eaden, paired with stresshog or tactician Bwings you dish 3 or even HLC-like 4 on range 1 while keeping him on budget. Or with just HLC and boom 5 dice to yar face :)

Why? Because Hard 1/barrel roll/boost is crazypants manoeuvrability.

You end up behind where you started pointing almost 180 degrees the other way.

And that ignores the fact that if you for some reason didn't PTL with Dash that turn, Kanan can shed someone else's stress.

It's not as much of a gimme as I might have implied, or as some commentators definitely have, but it's certainly strong competition. You lose the third action in xchange for opening up your entire dial for positioning.

WIred/Leebo/Title/HLC/EI has no use whatsoever for EI; it doesn't have an Action: upgrade for EI to fire, and as a result Wired will rarely trigger. E: wait, you mean Leebo crew. That's not terrible I guess, but ionising yourself every other turn is pretty horrible given that you won't have a way to clear stress that turn.

Yes. Ignore what everyone above me wrote.

If you just learned how to play, trying to play an upgrade-heavy ship will be overwhelming. Flying ships is difficult enough, let alone trying to remember a bunch of upgrades and how they combo with each other.

I recommend playing a few games with Wild Space Fringer as your pilot for the YT-2400, or Dash Rendar. Dash may make things easier as you can ignore obstacles when moving, but it may be confusing to have to remember obstacles for some ships but not others. The YT-2400 alone will provide a different flying challenge than the typical ship due to its large base and ability to fire outside of its firing arc.

Once you want to use upgrades, the upgrades in the Outrider pack are, for the more part, decent to great on it and you can experiment with different builds.

In X-Wing, skill is waaaaay more important than having the strongest build. Don't worry about having the best ship. Just worry about learning how to fly.

Aye, I think Kanan will be a legitimate option aboard Dash's Outrider. Frees up literally your entire dial to PTL with except the K-Turn, and that can be potentially huge (especially against a rangy arc dodger like Soontir or Jax). You become considerably less easier to predict and react to, which should help alleviate Dash's biggest weakness. That, and I agree that it could potentially be useful in certain cases to help clear other folk's stress, whether it's because you didn't PTL with Dash or because you were planning to take a green with him anyways.

But Kyle will always have his place there, too. Limits your dial, but gives more wiggle room on actions. Really, I don't think either crew member is a wrong choice compared to the other.

I like running Corran Horn with Marksmanship, Fire Control System, R2-D2, and a Hull Upgrade.

It makes him a fairly tanky, reliable source of damage.
