As a current 7th grade teacher, I would be pleased if this was an essay's outline. Now just put it in paragraph and complete sentence form! Good pre-writing... don't forget to refer to your 6+1 traits state scoring rubric, read it out loud to yourself, and have a peer help you edit it before turning in your final draft.

Pretty sure it already has.
I'm looking forward to trying Gonk on a Punishing One, like Dengar. Dengar with title, PTL, EU, Unhinged Astromech and Gonk is going to be a very slippery opponent to track down.
Another combo is Tel Trevura with PTL, R5-P8, Gonk and a Hull Upgrade. With Gonk to regenerate shields and R5-P8 to make them question their decision to shoot you in the first place, you should have a ship that can hold on for quite a while.
When I saw "Maneuvering Fins" on the list of "Potential Slotted Combos" I got all excited about the thought of slapping them on a Fettigator. Then I realized that they were YV-666 only. Then I realized I've already been through this spiral of disappointment.

They're on the list for the same reason as Engine Upgrades (escaping battle to lick one's wounds), but with the added benefit of not being an Action.
And they're generally underutilized. The folks who say "Engines Only" probably haven't tried these things.
I gonk belongs beside xizor. Give.... Misthunter (?) bodyguard and gonk. Fly xizor out front. Xizor gets extra green... If any hits get through u give to gonk. Gonk replenishes.

I wouldn't bother with bodyguard. They're just gonna shoot the gonk ship first anyway.
Hmmmmm.... Stealth device gonk ei bodyguard....yay

Ok, I need to know- how are the Fins worthwhile? I like the YV, but I haven't figured out the Fin attraction yet.

As with the Firespray, the YV-666's auxiliary arcs are more powerful than its main arc due to the mechanics of flight in this game.
If you fly in that manner, you'll find that you're using your Turns quite often, making the Maneuvering Fins superb for a back-up.
Basically, if you intend to Bank, select the corresponding Turn instead, and use Fins to adjust. You'll find that you've essentially added another 45* of firing arc to that side of your ship.
Considering that activating the Fins' ability holds literally no drawback if you've got them equipped...

GONKERS!!
My bet is 4-LOM
4LOM
Wired
GONK
Exp. Interface
Sensor Jammer
illicit of your choice (or none)
Evade+ gonk action of your choice then hand off the stress.
or
double gonk.

The problem I have with this is the low pilot skill makes it hard to ensure Range 1 and if you are left with a stress at the end of the round you have very limited options (4) to clear stress.

true, but it is 4 very 'okay' options being 1 speed banks and straights you can destress without needing to fly passed your target. and repeating the process next turn anyway. you would still get the benefit from wired regardless of action taken because you're still stressed.
I think because Gonk is an action upgrade you are either going to want PTL or EI with it. Most likely PTL so you can still take your engine upgrade That being said you will also want stress relief builds or builds that get a benefit from stress.
So far I think the best would be unhinged punishing one with PTL and EU as the best card for gonk. Sure call it the Fat Dengar but you get shield regeneration and you can take other actions like boost or focus. Best part about it is now Arc Dodgers have to prove that they are arc dodgers and not just claim that PWT is a no win situation because Dengar will PUNISH Arc Dodgers who don't dodge his firing arc.

Don't forget you can pass it to friendly ships as well (if there's one nearby that either can clear the stress easier next round or just doesn't care). I've passed off stress to friendly targets probably almost as often as enemy ones.

Depending what you pair him with and what you're up against, I like FCS and juke instead of sensor jammer and wired. A bit less defensive, but better offense. An Evade/Gonking 4lom with sensor jammer is goint to be hard to hi adn survive a long time, but do almost no damage due to lcak of offensive modifiers.

The new version of Xizor swarm! Have been playing around with 4LOM and a wing of Zs. Still often has the ball and chain issue, but you can push the Limit at Range of the enemy and still open your dial the next turn.
