Seems like you are just going to damage yourself. Totally scummy, but unless you have dead man's switch, not sure what good it would do.
Why would anyone want the "Genius" salvaged astromech?
K-turn proton bomb drop is a completely legitimate move. Who cares if your Y-wing takes a damage. If he has a turret he can even still shoot.
You can boost/br away from a bomb and mines must be overlapped.
Genius could be a smart choice.
Largely, people don't use Bomb Loadout, so Genius doesn't get used.

I tried this once before the new damage deck. I gave myself a munitions failure, lost my turret and was then unable to shoot. It was hilarious.
It's more of an insurance policy than a strong choice. As Dracon mentioned, people rarely load their Y wings with bombs, bit is a fair choice if you ever do. Y wings have relatively high HP for a small base. If you execute your maneuver and find yourself in a place where you're likely to hot 3+ ships with a bomb, I'd definitely say that the damage to yourself is worth it. The disadvantage is that you have to be able to predict the enemy's final location unless you load one on Horton or Kavil, and they have better ways to spend their points.
Genius + Engine Upgrade = the "SLAM & BOMB" we wanted.
It's all about options, and for 0 points. Some people even play this game for fun(not winning if you are Zack Mathews)
Zack Mathews, now there's a guy who would use genius if he flew scum
You need to watch out for him. Two Store championships in the bag
As others have said, you can totally Boost away if you want. Can be a tad bit pricey, though.
Kavil's high PS also makes him an interesting choice, along with his proclivities towards turrets. 35 points would give you Kavil with two Seismic Charges, Engine Upgrade, "Genius", and a Dorsal Turret (that he'll actually be capable of doing OK damage with).
And I just texted it out, and, no, sadly you can't BR to safety. Shame, Expert Handling could've made for a cheaper alternative, but you simply can't clear the distance required to avoid the big boom.
no points, sure you do damage yourself but you can put on EU to boos out. With EM you end up with 2 uses of Genius. Not bad for 0 points.
It is not super effective points wise, but I had some fun with Kavil, Genius, proton bombs, and Determination. Had a casual match, flew into the other guy's squad, dropped a bomb and critted all his guys. I grab a damage card for Kavil, look at it, oh it's a pilot crit, so no damage taken. Now chances for that happening every time are not great but it is funny to see.
With a high PS pilot, you can run up and drop a prox mine on someone's doorstep. Sort of the x-wing equivalent to dog poop in a lit paper sack. If the opponent moves before you do, you don't have to worry about running over it. If it's a proton bomb, well just hope your intended victim has fewer HP than you do.

Except you don't need "Genius" to drop a Proxy mine after moving.
All "Genius" currently effects are Seismic Charges, Ion Bombs, and Proton Bombs.

My bad. Obviously I'm a little too confused. Need more sleep.
My mind might be shot but I could swear that there is an astromech that allows a s&v ship to drop a mine from the front guides after movement. Did I imagine that?

You're combining Genius with Deathrain, so you've clearly been drinking too many potions.
Because when it works its pure genius ![]()

That's why you should never use outdated newt eyeballs.
Bombs...Bombs, the things I never let my mates drop right?
You have not known joy until you have dropped a Genius proton bomb right in the middle of your enemies tie swarm, where Howlrunner was supposed to be. It is a quite good if situational upgrade.
Edited by DarkArkYou get to choose where your Proton Bomb/Seismic Charge/Ion Bomb lands. And then boost away from the resulting explosion.
Try it on a Y-Wing with Engine Upgrade, Proton Bombs and Extra Munitions, and laugh hysterically as all of Soontir's upgrades and turtling don't help him one bit.

Ever seen VI EU Proton GENIUS kavil?
I have ridden this beast of war, and mighty is he!
