Your favourite lightsaber duel!

By Admiral Deathrain, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Oh yeah, I'd somehow forgotten that Old Rebublic one. Those trailers are so good, just a tantalising taste of how absolutely epic an Old Republic film or three would be.

Maul vs Vizla is just so cool.

1) Luke vs. Vader in ESB

2) Obi-Wan vs. Anakin in RotS

3) Maul vs. Pre Vizsla in TCW

Personally, I think the fight among Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, and Maul in TPM is just hugely overrated. And I believe the RotJ duel between Luke and Vader is way too short to be considered "epic" or whatever a lot of you are claiming... (A few parries, Luke hammering at Vader's arm, and then it's over.)

Ryan vs Dorkman

and

Ryan vs Dorkman 2.

Look them up on youtube, they're awesome.

I was going to suggest these. They were fun!

1) Luke vs. Vader in ESB

2) Obi-Wan vs. Anakin in RotS

3) Maul vs. Pre Vizsla in TCW

It is more about the whole scene, the throne room is one of the best things that ever happened in Star Wars - the lightsaber duel is a perfect physical component to that.

To be honest, about 5 minutes (which both of those are) is about the perfect length of time for a fight on-screen, I think. One of my major problems with the RotS fight (aside from how half the time they're not even trying to hit each other if you look at the swing trajectory) is that between Yoda and the Emperor and Obi and Anakin, you have about 15+ minutes of non-stop lightsabering, which just gets repetitive.

  1. ESB
  2. ROTJ
  3. ANH

I liked how in the OT you never saw Yoda and Palpatine use a 'saber. Before the prequals I figured that once you reached a certain level of mastery of the Force, you no longer (needed) used a light saber.

Best lightsaber combat (lightsaber vs non lightsaber):

1. Obi Wan vs Ponda Baba.

2. Han vs Tauntaun corpse.

While the fights in the cartoon were good, I still don't like Palpatine using lightsabers. I stick by the original Palpatine quote that lightsabers were a Jedi's weapon and not something linked to the Sith by default as well.

Vader and Dooku were fallen Jedi, so they get to keep theirs, but why should Palpatine have one as well?

Does Kas'im vs Darth Bane count?

No, because I am the absolute ruler of everything and that is against the holy rules that I have decreed! :P

Ofc it counts when you like it!

Haha. Mostly asked if it counted for this thread, because it's a novel duel, and not a cinematic one.

Though yeah. Old Republic Ven Zallow vs Darth Malgus is up there as well.

Keeps Jedi from simply blocking his force lightning with theirs and then lopping off his head? (At least from a film's perspective. EU Sidious wasn't that simple to take out, but by the same token, EU introduced a large number of other reasons carrying a lightsaber was a good idea for a Jedi or Sith).

Lacking a lightsaber seems a huge weakness against a high level Jedi that's carrying one, since you have nothing to fall back on if the Jedi's mastery of the Force is great enough to stalemate yours.

The line dooku gives to yoda about their fight not being able to be resolved by their knowledge of the force really sums this up.

Yes a very powerful force user might not need their lightsaber as much. But fighting a comparable force user would likely end in a stalemate. Lightsabers are quicker, use less force ability, and also require physical prowess and skill. All factors that can cause someone to make a mistake and die.

You tried to freeze him in carbonite and when that didn't work cut of his hand? :o

Son: "You said that if I cleaned up my room, We can have pizza!"

Dad: "I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further."

Son: "But dad!"

Dad: "That's it, into the fridge with you, junior!"

My favorite light saber battles are the one I used to fight in Jedi Knight multiplayer :) .

1. Empire strikes back: Luke vs. Vader

2. Return of the Jedi: Luke vs. Vader

3. The force awakens: Kylo vs Finn & Rey (Guy keeps on going)

4. Rebels Season 1: Inquisitor vs. Kanaan & Ezrah

5. Rebels Season 2: Inquisitor brush both Ezrah and Kanaan away and get roflstomped by Ashoka in return

6. The Clone Wars: Anakin vs. Bariss Offee (Rage on both sides, but Anakin is the bigger hater)

The rest is pretty exchangeable. Also I want Yoda and Palpatine using lightsabers to be erased from existance...
