400 4 Ship Rebs. It was Crazy.

By Drasnighta, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Today I tossed all sense and sensability out of the window and ran this:

MC80 Assault (114)
MC80 Assault (114)
AFMK-IIB (73)

AFMK-IIB (73)

- Garm Bel Iblis (25)

Yes.

That's 397 / 400 right there.

I flew it up against an ISD-II with Screed, XI7s, Intel and Gunnery, and a pair of Barebones Vic-Is.

His fighter cover was Dengar, An Advanced, and a Quartet of Interceptors.

I got the choice, and went First Player for Activation Advantage. I picked his Superior Positons.

The game was quick.

The game was bloody.

The game was fun.

The game was a Draw.

I lost both MonCals - completely eaten by the ISD-II at close Range. It happens. Completely. With no Brace due to Intel/ACCs and receiving 4+4 dice... It happens.

But they managed to trash his ISD down on hull and no shields before they died, as well as set a Vic on fire.

Plus, the focus of his 3 ships on the 2 MonCals meant the 2 assault Frigates got 3 turns of Rear Shots on whoever they wanted...

I lost the 230pts of Ships.

He lost the ISD, one Interceptor, and on the objectives - 6 points to his 3.

Difference in the battle was...... 6 Points. In his favour.

Next time, I'll consider MonCal Commands with ECM.

And might actually win.

Sounds like a fun game, Dras. I contend that 400 points was not enough of a bump to make the standard for tourney lists. 300-400 pts just allowed players to add in some squadrons and a few more upgrades. I wish they allowed for 450-500, I feel we would really see a lot more 4 and 5 ship lists.

I normally never leave home without 100+ points in squadrons... So this was just an absolute blowout for me... :D

Store champs are in two weeks, though... :D

At the moment, I'm being dared to take a 4-5 VIC list to them... But I only own 2 and havn't been able to beg/borrow/steal enough :D

For tournaments though, I feel 400pts is a good middle ground. Its enough, but still scrimpy to the point you need to choose carefully what you want, without getting everything...

Having an option for bigger games would be nice, but its just that - nice - not really needed to me...

Friendly games, that's cool - if you've got 12 hours to blow on 2-3 games, then fantastic.... But I know we run on tight schedules and 400 is a nice enough compromise, on the upper end of things...

Personally, I would go back to playing 300 if I had to, but it'd be over in an hour :D

I'll be there if you want to borrow 3 VSDs I sure am not going to use them.

So it is Confirmed....

If I am given the requisite 3 VSDs...

I will run this at the Sentry Box Store Championship:

[ EMPIRE FLEET (389 points)
1 • Victory I-class Star Destroyer (73)
2 • Victory I-class Star Destroyer (73)
3 • Victory I-class Star Destroyer (73)
4 • Victory I-class Star Destroyer (73)
5 • Victory I-class Star Destroyer - Admiral Motti (97)
6 • Objectives - Opening Salvo - Hyperspace Assault - Superior Positions (0)

50 pts of hull....I don't think even Clon could chewy through that for a table......That's the biggest firing line I have ever seen.

For 5 points you could take Walex Blissex and cancel one use of Intel Officer.

I've been having similar thoughts regarding a barebones list on the Rebel side:

Ackbar and 4 Guppies with Gunner Teams, which leave you enough points for 4 A-Wings and a 2 point bid.

I'm sure it's not an original idea, but does anybody know how it does on the table?

I like the theory of a bare bones fleet. I just can't bring myself to put it into practice.

Well, I'm taking it to the absolute Maximum on Sunday...

50 Hull Points for a Store Championships!

Would it be possible to take 4 with Tarkin, maybe make them Vic-2's? That would be deadly.

I have 0 Respect for the Vic-II over the Vic-I.

I have never killed a Ship with a Vic-II, no matter how it was upgraded.

I drive Vics aggressively enough that they generally go from "Red Dice Only" to "Point Blank Range", so the "Extra Range" of the Blue Dice is a bit of a misnomer for the way I play.

I hate anything that can roll a blank, to be honest. They're the devil. If there was a card that changed my red dice to blue, I'd rather roll 8 blue dice than 4 red and 4 blue.

5 Victories.

Everyone should do it.

Unfortunately, my last Game was Red-Die Hell, with tons of Distractions, and I flopped it. I went from Top-4 Contention to 10th place over it.

Everyone should do it once. It will reinforce your maneuver game so much learning how to have 5 victories converge on a single point and not ram each other... (I only had one Blue-on-Blue Bump in the entire tournament.)

I'm glad I've done it.

But I'm never doing it again.
