"Double move"

By FrogTrigger, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

Quick question, when a hero performs a 'double move' does he have to end the current action before he can start the next action?

For instance, I have speed 4, I want to move 8 spaces, so I say I am using both my actions to gain movement points, I can spend all 8 in a row. OR do I need to first use the 4 from my first action, and then other 4?

Like if you were going over a figure, and the 4th movement point would leave you standing on top of them, that isn't allowed. So would you have to move 3 spaces up to that figure, THEN activate your second move, move over him, and just combine the movement points after?

Essentially how do you block someone in a hall if they can just activate both movement points at once and jump over you? I was under the assumption that the "can't end a movement in another figures space" was put in just specifically to prevent this.

The move action ends immediatelty after giving movement points according to Speed. The move action does not move the figure. Spending the movement points gained moves the figure.

So you perform the first move action, which gives you movement points.

You perform the second move action, getting more movement points.

You may take upto 2 strain for one movement point each (strain only upto your endurance).

You spend any or all movement points to move the figure.

Essentially, blocking figures is hard, but it still costs them actions to move through hostile figures. You need to use other strategies in addition to blocking. (Blocking doors is still efficient, because a figure can't take an action while in a space with another figure.)

Wrt blocking: it's very rare that you can outright stop someone but it's still useful to slow them down (I've seen plenty of campaign games where the rebels lose for want of 1 movement point).

I think the reason for the rule is for example, to prevent eh imperial player from putting a nexu in the middle of 2x6 hallway, then have stormtroopers step on him, shoot and step back. Or using other abilities while temporarily standing on allies/enemies for more range. And finally, there were a lot more ambigous situations if you do something that interrupts while standing of the shoulders of your brave wookie mount. ;)
