Is there value ($) in a first round bye?

By churchwarden, in X-Wing

I have seen a lot of alternate art cards and acrylic tokens for sale for various prices, but havent seen the first round bye for sale.

What would the value of one of those be? Are they ever sold? I am referring to any of them, be it for regionals, nationals, or worlds......

You can't sell them.

I mean literally, the winners name is written on the back, usually in permanent marker. I think one guy had his written in pen and wiped it off, and sold it on eBay for like, $200. But that was only one time.

Not to mention that that is a) really shady and b) pointless, since the TO has to register the winner at FFG/the local distributor.

And more to the point, why would you want to do it?

Someone selling/looking to buy something like that would be showing a lot of their integrity and, to be honest, I'd be keeping a close eye on my models, cards and wallet.

For me personally I'd say at the time 'hey, can you put someone else's name on this' if I was already going to the event the bye was for.

I'd always rather play than skip a game for a win.

However if it got me into an event you needed to earn your way into, then obviously I'd keep it.

I was just wondering.... as i said, I haven't seen any for sale. What if you won a store championship with intent of attending a regionals only to find out you had a scheduling error and were unable to attend the regional? Nothing to do with integrity, was just wondering if it could be sold since i haven't seen any for sale.

They are non-transferable.

No.

I had heard to stores were to submit the name of the player receiving the BYE, id assume to avoid transferring it.

Im not for certain, though.

Store do submit that info to FFG.

If you don't want the bye then sure, you don't need to get your name put on it. It is just that if you decline the bye then it should go to the NEXT player in the tournament that awarded it instead of someone you can freely name.

You have a bye and then win another to the same event then that second isn't going to do you a bit of good. You should be able to decline the second and have it go to the highest placing player without a bye but you should not just be able to give it to a friend.

I asked around about this since the TO at the Store Championship I won didn't write my name on my regional bye card.

The TO is supposed to tell FFG who the winner is. No $200 for me, lol.

There was a store here in Atlanta that refused to give the winner of their Store Championship the Regional Bye Card unless they could prove they'd be going to the Regional.

They also refused to allow anybody that was not a "regular" to attend the Store Championship, to the point of lying about it's date to people who called to ask about it.

Now this is also all sorts of wrong.

How does one "prove" they'd be going to a Regional? Do you need uncancellable airline tickets or have a room already paid for? It may not be common but I can see where that bye might convince someone to go who hadn't been planning on it.

If I called about a Store Championship with a FFG provided reward and was purposefully given a wrong date my anger would be hard to contain. Waste a trip for something that isn't there would not only ensure I never come back but would also trigger someone higher up in the food chain knowing about the store's deplorable actions. If that is how they want to treat people I guess that soon they wouldn't need to worry about non-regulars because no one will ever want to go there.
