Ello/Sojan and ??? Giving A-wing more punch

Hello there


I love A-wing so i though about giving one of them more love. Jake didnt gave me what i needed so i ended with Gemmer. I didnt had chance to fight against Palpa Aces so i dont know if this would work.

Idea is simple. FLy Wes and Sojan nearby. Wes will strip enemy from tokens. Sojan will punch them with opportunist.


Im still not shure about marksmanship on Wess. Maybe change it to Swarm Tactics?


Any ideas to improve?


I'm not really a fan of Marksmanship, unless you're using Advanced Proton Torpedoes or have multiple attacks it can modify. A regular focus token is usually better as you can also use it on defense and I find that more useful than possibly getting a crit through if it's not dodged altogether or eaten by shields.That said, I wouldn't do Swarm Tactics either. Neither Gemmer or Ello should be within range 1 of Wes very often so you wouldn't get much use out of it. That leaves EPTs like VI, Predator, or PTL. PTL might not be bad as you have R2-D2 to want to do greens anyway, but VI might be the better choice so your opponent doesn't know where you're going longer to arc-dodge. That would take you back down to 97, so you could throw on something like Flechette Torpedoes just for the control aspect if you ever get a chance to launch them.

I also don't like R5-X3 much. I feel like a generic R2 would do better, or upgrade it to something else situational like R7-T1 rather than adding the Flechettes.

I though about Flechette torpedoes too, but is PTL worth on calsic t-65 X-wing? He got only two possible actions... No Engine upgrade on Wes... I was trying to put bb8-PTL-EU combo on him, but i need to get somewhere 1 more point. Still i will lose 1 hull from integrated and regen from R2.

About R5-X3. I used it every game. This astromech gave me more oportunity to kill/damage enemy than any other. This makes Ello more unpredictable.

I don't see the point in running an a-wing that way. For the points, you might as well just run another x-wing.

Also, Veteran Instincts is really good on Wes. Being able to shoot first with him is handy because he can steal a token before anyone gets to use it (for example, if an opponent has a focus token, you can steal it before they can use it to modify their own attack. Imagine how sad Poe would be...)

So:

Wes w/ VI, r2-d2 & integrated astro = 34

Ello w/ predator, R5-X3 & autothrusters = 36

Hobbie w/ R2-D6, Opportunist & integrated astro = 30

Or if you don't like Hobbie, you could take Red Squadron Veteran with predator & R2 & integrated astro for 29 points.

I just don't think Gemmer has enough punch to be worthwhile, considering how many points he costs you (even with opportunist).

Here comes another point why i picked A-wing earlier. Defence. A-wings have 3 defence dice. Stealth makes them 4 dice (5 at range 3). Combed with Gammer it gives 5 defence dice in range 1 and 3 compared to 2 def dice of X-wing. I need to remember about boost/evade action.

Im losing 1 attack dice and 1 hull (2 with integrated).

Wont that be hitting survivability and mobility too much?

I could understand wanting Gemmer for defence if all of your ships had good defence. But because they don't, your opponent simply targets the other ships in your list and saves Gemmer to last. This would be okay if Gemmer was punchy. Once the x-wings are gone, opportunist is unlikely to trigger very often, leaving Gemmer hitting like a wet noodle. He just doesn't cut it as a closer, I'm afraid. So his defensive capability is not really meaningful, imho. YMMV I guess.

I have just tested both lists.

Hobbie is great in offense but while focused die fast as hell. His combo was amazing. always 3 hits.

Gemmer, well even with opportunist he got a little problem in giving fatal blow. But he lived long enough to do his job. Stealth device dont like me. lost it inm turn 1 in 2/3 games that i used it.

Wes with VI. Thats what i needed. Fighting Poe, and he was looking sad without that focus. Not only him. Vader not using ATC whole game, even Soontir without one of his tokens was easier to kill.

Ello was like always. Outflank and hit as hard as can. He didnt die even once.

In the end I will go with Gemmer. He lives far more than Hobbie.
