Shield modification on standard Tie's ?

By Barry Harker, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hey guy's

Came up against a player who had Shields on Standard Tie's and Tie Interceptors.

I know the rules state....Modification :

These upgrades can be equipped to any ship.

But can shields be equipped to a Tie fighter that doesn't have shields in the first place ?

Hull upgrade yes, but surley standard normal Tie's don't have shield capacity like the Tie/fo or Defenders.....that have shield generators.

Just interested if you can do this.

As it doesn't say you can't.

Thanks.

And all the best.

Barry.

By the rules, if you have the points, yes you can.

By canon, if we accept video games, then, yes you can. Just following the path of Admiral Zaarin. At least I think it was him.

Best of luck.

Just because a ship has a natural shield value of "0" doesn't stop you from adding a shield upgrade.

A Modification Upgrade card represents a minor system or technical addition to the ship.

But if he's running the generics instead of named pilots, he'd be better off running TIE/fo Fighters. Lots of people try to find ways to make the named regular TIE Fighters last longer because A) They have some good abilities and B) TIE Fighters are awesome.

He had them on a Gozanti transport.

Carrying four Ties

I was just interested in if it actually is OK to have Shields on

A ship that doesn't normally have them.

But as said....just a generic mod.

I took them all out....with there Shields in close with the Falcon anyway!

Something to think about.

Although there are better options for that modification slot.

Probably why I never see anyone using Shields on Ties.

Thanks guys.

Do what the card says to do. Don't do what the card doesn't say to do.
