Tournament Shake-up - Bumper Cars

By BadAsh1, in X-Wing Squad Lists

  1. Oicunn [Veteran Instincts, Gunner, Emperor Palpatine, Dauntless, Anti-Pursuit Lasers]
  2. Omega Leader [Crack Shot, Stealth Device]
  3. Wampa

If they focus on Oicunn, Wampa makes them pay with basically guranteed crits each round

***UPDATED - VI replaced with Crack Shot on Oicunn

Here's the build in X-Wing Builder website

Modification suggestions welcome.

Not that you asked my opinion, but here are my thoughts.

Oicunn wants a lower PS because he wants to move first and bump into other ships. VI is kind of wasted in that sense. Ion Projectors instead of APL (although APL is good) is also interesting with the emperor because if you bump just right you put them in a ion loop that means they'll never move for the rest of the game.

Have you considered Juke/Comms Relay on Omega Leader? It's kind of like continuous crackshot. Something to consider.

Wampa/Emperor is awesome.

I like the list!

What about Oicunn plus a miniswarm of TIEs? Use the ties to gum up the board and play rugby in the middle.

^Saw a tournament match on Youtube ft. Oicunn & a mini-swarm. The opponent got Dash rammed hard and, because of the TIE swarm behind the Decimator, Dash was unable to move for the rest of the match. Well, until he was removed from the board, I guess...

Thanks. The problem with Ion Projector is that it rewards a blocker. If he gets you blocked and then you ionize him, he gets to sit there another round via ionization and I dont get to ram him and make him pay for it. I'd prefer to keep potentially smacking him in the face for 1 damage per round to deter such behavior in the first place.

Juke/Comms would be nice, except that even removing Oicunn's VI the point total goes over 100 that way. If we're going to theorycraft, let's at least keep it relevant ;)

Uh... if you ionize someone, then you have ultimate ability to "[smack] him in the face for 1 damage per round". He can't go anywhere-- you just do a 1-Ahead, you won't clear, you bump, Oicunn procs for 1 damage, he ionizes into you, you use Emperor (if necessary) to force Ion Projectors to lock him down, repeat next turn. He gets no actions and no dial so he can't get away and your turret lets you project power without moving. It's a death sentence.

Anyway, for Omega Leader the recommendation would probably be to drop Oicunn's VI and OL's Crack and Stealth for the Juke-Comms combo.

I don't get what you are saying how ion projecting would benefit the blocked. If your Oicunn moves before your blocked opponent (which at PS4, he likely will) he will damage said opponent. If they run into you ever, it turns into an ion loop (for a small ship) if you can get your front guides so that your one forward is an effective stall. You'll never get actions, but that's ok with this build:

Oicunn

Predator (no need for actions for either shot that you take)

Palp

Gunner

Ion Projector

Omega Leader

Juke

Comms Relay (see, there are enough points!)

Wampa

100 Points.

LOL, not gonna gut Oicunn just to have a 5-point juke/comm when a 1 point crack shot will do. At most, Juke ends up being useful 3 times in a match vs crack once, and even then the Juke's has been negated over half the time, so now 1.5 times Juke vs. 1 Juke for 4 extra points? I don't think so. I get that some people have pet toys. I just don't see gutting a specific build to accommodate because someone thinks it should be applied anytime a TIE is in the build, especially when it has limited payoff. I've run the bumper car build 8 times now with perfect record. Blockers wither and die, and aces dance around it until they have to face it or surrender.

With Omega leader juke only gets negated if you dont have a target lock on them. Thats why it is the default for him with comm relay so you can dodge well out of range grab that target lock and then do some damage.

Please forgive me-- you said "suggestions welcome" when clearly they are not. You've now snapped at two different people who took the time to reply to you, and since you "now [have a] perfect record" with it you obviously know what you're doing.

By the by, my suggestion doesn't "gut" Oicunn at all... just drops his VI (on a PS4 model!) and changes the allocation of points on your Omega Leader to be more effective. But, since you're demonstrably hostile to advice, feel free to ignore me.

4 wins, 1 tie, 1 loss with the build today between 2 events. Kit swag in hand. Shreds TLT lists. Killed Whisper on the loss to aces but the TIEs fell to Vader too quickly at the start.

  1. Oicunn [Crack Shot, Gunner, Emperor Palpatine, Dauntless, Anti-Pursuit Lasers]
  2. Omega Leader [Crack Shot, Stealth Device]
  3. Wampa

Sorry you choose to feel hurt. there are suggestions (tweaks), then there are whole overhauls. Anyway, best wishes feeling better going forward.

For the record, I think your suggestions were quite sound. Basically what I would've recommended. No point beating a dead horse, however.

How is suggesting Juke/Comms relay (a 5 point combo) 'gutting' Oicunn when Crackshot/Stealth a 4 point combo? My only argument was that Oicunn at PS6 is kind of a waste because he wants to move last anyway. Oh well, good luck with your list!

Oicunn

Predator (no need for actions for either shot that you take)

Palp

Gunner

Ion Projector

Omega Leader

Juke

Comms Relay (see, there are enough points!)

I think the Ion Projector vs. Pursuit Lasers is open to debate (maybe it's better to do 2 damage in one pass than try to stall a target out? I'd need to test myself); otherwise, I think this version of the list is much better.
