Talent Prerequisite Question

By Tahl, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Guys, i'm having an epic brain fart and for some reason can't wrap my head around talent selection. Can one of you nice people enlighten me?

My problem is understanding the connecting lines connecting the various talents, specifically when one talent has lines connecting it to other talents. Usually by row 4 everything has a line connecting it to the one next to it and i don't understand which talents are required to get the talent i want.

For example, using the Sentinal: Shadow tree, I want Dodge. Does that mean I need Street Smarts and Mental Fortress only to get dodge, or do I need Street Smarts, Mental Fortress, codebreaker, grit, and sleight of Mind?

From Seeker: Ataru Striker. I want improved parry. Do I need quick draw, quick strike or do i need jump up, Ataru Technique, and Parry.

Thanks for your help.

You need to follow the lines to get the talents. Sometimes this will make you get talents before you can get the one you want.

You basically follow the lines. If a talent is in row three, column 2, and it has four connecting lines, you only need one to access the talent.

For example, using the Sentinal: Shadow tree, I want Dodge. Does that mean I need Street Smarts and Mental Fortress only to get dodge, or do I need Street Smarts, Mental Fortress, codebreaker, grit, and sleight of Mind?

You only need Street Smarts and Mental Fortress.

From Seeker: Ataru Striker. I want improved parry. Do I need quick draw, quick strike or do i need jump up, Ataru Technique, and Parry.

You need Jump Up, Ataru Technique, and Parry. The Quick Draw+Quick Strike combo is a dead end. You'll see that a lot. If you have the other core books, the Slicer is notorious for having only one entry talent from the top row leading anywhere else.

Edit: beaten to it!

First off the top row of 5xp talents are always available to purchase.

From then on you must have purchased at least 1 of the linking talents to be able to buy the one your looking to get.

For your first example of Dodge in the Sentinel Shadow tree all you need to have already purchased is Street Smarts and Mental Fortress.

For your second example for the Improved Parry talent in the Ataru tree the cheapest way to get it is by buying Jump Up, Ataru Technique and Parry first.

the QuickDraw, Quick Strike is a dead end in the tree.
