So, you got a new list. What lists do you playtest against?

By Deadshane, in Star Wars: Armada

Post some lists or list types that you like to playtest your new potential builds against.

Vassal OFFLINE is a nice tool for this I've found...a little time consuming, but it doesn't lock down the kitchen table. I'll take a new potential build and run it a few turns against typical stuff I've seen on Vassal or in the FLGS.

Do you playtest your new ideas? Gimmie some lists you play against!

I'm also trying this and have come up with:

CR-90 TRC Spam

3 AFs with Gunnery Teams

MC-80 + Yavaris and Massive Squads

Dual ISD with bombers and Dual ISD with Anti Squad

ISD with 2 Glads

ISD + Vic with massive squads

Of course you could never test against EVERYTHING but that's what makes Armada great in my opinion.

I like testing against real people. Sadly the way I play (which is not heavy on predictions) allows me to be reactive and proactive easily enough.

In testing I like to try against the following list arctypes:

Swarm (5+ ships little to no squadrons)

Akbar 3 ship (mc80+guppies light to moderate fighter cover)

Isd 2 with support(generally 3 ships isd+support from 2 smaller ships, moderate squadron)

Fighter heavy build(100+ squadron points), B-wing swarm, fireball (supported by 2 or 3 ships with at least 1 carrier

Whatever the other guy brings.

I do try to identify what I'd bring to counter my own list, and make sure I get in a game or two against that before I take the new list to a tournament. But I don't really play test, exactly. My philosophy:

This is how I go about it. I just build my list with versatility and flexibility in mind while knowing my weaknesses.

If I run my Vader Duet (2x ISD 2's) the I know I can't rush someone with more activations than me. If I am running Dodonna the Oppressor (3x TRC90's with 2x TRCAPT30's all with Intel Officer) then I know ow that I have to focus fire linked no one else and other speedster lists can prove problematic

Since I have no way to test vs others (no local gamers who play), I'll run a list against myself. Typically once I dial in a Rebel list I like, I'll work an Imperial one to beat it, and so on. Or at least one that flies smoother.

If I'm driving for a live opponent occasionally, I'd rather have flied it at least once.
