next week I'm going to a rookie tournament in with we can only use cards from one of the Core Sets (not mixing) and bring an extra ship (not upgrades), to a max of 60 points.

So far I'm between this lists:

Using the original Core:

A)

Poe + R2-D2 (35)

Biggs (25)

B)

Luke + R2-D2 + Markmanship (35)

Dagger Squadron (24)

I feel like the regen from R2-D2 is going to be really strong in this setting, considering i'll be facing other Poe & Luke from rebels and at most 2 Tie + something from Imperials, so having an 8 PS pilot feels like a good choice.

Now using the TFA Core Set:

A)

Poe + BB-8 + Weapons Guidance (35)

Dagger Squadron (24) or Biggs (25)

I'm not sure if R2-D2's regen is worth over the extra 3 shields from having a B-Wing over an X-Wing.

Could you not do Poe with R2D2 and the Dagger B wing?

Poe should beat Luke because of the boost actions and ability to reposition if needed.

B wing is bulkier body than Biggs.

No, because to bring R2D2 to the table I have to go with the Original Core Set, that force me bring at least 1 x-wing (Luke, biggs, Red Squadron or Red Rookie.

Ahh, Then I would go with Poe/Biggs Who gets R2 is up for debate as they will be forced to shoot Biggs, so allowing him to regen might be good, or you can sacrifice him for the greater good, and have Poe hopefully able to solo your opponents last guy.

Yeah, with such limitations, R2-D2 is going to be dominant. I predict the winner will have R2-D2...

If you can only use upgrades from a core set, then Poe is definitely the better choice. Your first list should do fine (but it won't be unique---I bet others will run the exact same thing...)
