Mandatory Force Powers and Morality: EotE PCs in F&D

By GreyMatter, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

So for the Shards of Alderaan campaign I'm designing, all characters are expected to be Force-sensitives. I imagine most are going to roll F&D characters, but I'm confident 1-2 are going to roll EotE characters. Because I'm hoping to streamline the Morality/Obligation systems down to just Morality, I'm wondering if people think the following requirements for EotE characters living in a F&D world will be fair and/or reasonable:

EotE Characters in Shards of Alderaan Campaign:

  • Must select Force Sensitive Exile specialization at creation (typically will cost 20 pts to select if it is character's 2nd specialization).
  • Must select at least 10 pts of Force Sensitive Exile talents or Force Powers.
  • Character will use the Morality system instead of the Obligation system.

Justification here is that the storyline will emphatically require the characters to be demonstrably Force-Sensitive -- in the sense that they cannot simply "be" Force Sensitive.

This story will also require all PCs (EotE or F&D) to start at Morality 29, due to their being trained in a Sith Academy. In compensation for this forced choice, all characters will receive +5 XP and +500 Credits at creation (which will represent the quality of their education and access to gear).

Is this too draconian? It doesn't appear so to me, but I'm a very assertive GM, so...it's hard for me to get perspective, sometimes.

What you could do is simply grant everyone a bonus point in Force Rating (so the F&D careers would start with 2) and require that everyone have the basic power in at least one force power.

As long as the players are aware up front I see no issues.

I would not require this to be spent at start. You're cutting into an EotE characters XP for stats by about 30 XP, which is a serious hit.

Instead, I would let them create characters as normal. Then give all characters 30 earned XP (cannot be spent on stats, and skills can't go above 2). EotE characters must buy FS:Ex and Talents/Powers.

Not a bad idea.

aka, Squire Level... :)

Very much agree with this, also be aware that at the start the EotE characters will be slightly "behind" the others in terms of overall skill ranks/Talent expenditure, but it should even out within a few sessions.

Yeah, the 20 XP for FSEx vs. the 2 less skill points for F&D characters.

In some cases the 2 skill ranks could equal 20 XP, but not many. Like you said, not a huge advantage.
