An Idea About Wave Release Frameworks

By Zabuzauz, in X-Wing

A thought just popped into mind.

What if FFG is delaying the release of Wave 8 so that it doesn't impact Store Championship season. This way they can keep this SC season consistent, instead of having earlier championships be made up of different combinations than later ones.

It makes sense to me, and I feel it could make for an interesting precedent. If FFG releases, say, 2 waves a year. The first wave released each year comes after SC season. And the second comes out before World's (or something along those lines). If this kind of framework was followed, it would take a lot of guesswork out of predicting when waves came out. I think it would help settle some anxiety as well.

What do you think?

Possible but they've released stuff in the middle of the SC season before. But they may have decided that caused issues and won't do it again.

Or it just hasn't gotten here yet. Or they're holding it until it's ready to release in the EU as well.

They don't really bother with that. Hell, they still release LCG monthly packs throughout the tournament season.

X-Wing is the only game I play, so I don't have that knowledge. I didn't realize the LCG's had monthly releases. Yikes.

Why would they care about it being released in the Expanded Universe?

Or is it "why would they care about it being released in the engine upgrade?"

:P

Yeah but for the LCG's it's one $15 pack per month which isn't too bad. Unless you collect a bunch of LCG's...

I hate to be the person to just say "No." So I will explain why:

1) In previous events, they have explicitly stated "_____ is not legal." While this is typically when pre-release content is available (I'm thinking Imdaar Alpha, Gencon, Worlds), it's a pattern they've shown.

2) It used to be that content was not legal until it was explicitly called out in the tourney rules. They changed this ruling for a reason.

3) They've already released content in the middle of a season before

4) That would mean that they're targeting an April release (after the Jan-March SCs, before the May-July Regionals). And in order to do that, they would have to be sitting on inventory in Q1 without having it available for sale. This is a bad business model.

5) Someone in Germany already has his hands (allegedly) on W8. Presumably, this means at least some distributors have received their inventory.

It could be quality issues, transportation, red tape, something else. I think it's expensive to hold salable stock anywhere, so I'm almost certain the delays are not in the interests of preserving the meta for the duration of Store Championship season.

It's a good thing for shiny new toys to show up at any time. If it happens tomorrow, it'll be a great opportunity for sales staff to tell customers about upcoming tournaments. :)

Don't forget, if you are playing a transgender dash rendar in a computer role-player version of x-wing in Europe to be PC about your PC EU PC with an EU in the EU.
