Fun fact: Venators apparently were apart of the Sanctuary pipeline according to FFG's card game Balance of the Force.
How is FFG supposed to know...?
It also seems that the First Order also has much respect for both Venator and the Imperial Class as both classes were used to help create the Resurgent Class with having the intimidating looks and weapons of the Imperial Class and the fighter compliment similar to the Venator and in many ways being a almost perfect hybrid of the two Star Destroyer classes.

Bingo, that is how they tied the lineage all together.
Do Venators exist outside the prequels - are they used a lot in the cartoon? If so, what's their role? I see they're a little bigger than a Victory Class according to Wookipedia. That's a problem, because in Star Wars land bigger is a metaphor for more powerful, at least when it come to space machines (Death Star - Second Death Star - Starkiller Base (stupid name, should have just been The Starkiller)) (ISD - Executor), which would imply that the Empire brought in a new, less powerful Star Destroyer, which obviously begs the question what was the Victory for? Was it just a test bed for manufacturing techniques used in the Imperial Class? Was it more efficient to produce than the Venators (I can imagine the Empire being more efficient than the bloated old Republic)?
See the thing is about that, is to forget that the prequel films exist. Because they are terrible.

Did you know that there's a special potion that, if you drink it, makes you forget about the prequels? It's called BLEACH.

They don't make enough bleach....

But it's worth a shot damnit, bottoms up!
Consider the fact that the US has warships and aircraft that were designed and/or built decades ago still in service. Just because there's a better ship doesn't mean the Empire is going to throw out the massive fleet of Republic-era warships. While they were considered obsolete according to the Tarkin Doctrine (they weren't big and scary enough), they could still serve as a dedicated fleet carrier that still packs a decent punch. And worst case scenario they could be sent to some backwater system to hunt pirates and frighten the local farmers. Actually, they'd be much better at hunting pirates, because their larger complement of fighters and bombers would be better for chasing down and destroying the smaller ships pirates are likely to use.
They're bigger than Victories, though?

The talky bits sucked, but the ships rocked, so give me my dang Venators!
Guys, they're OBVIOUSLY going to add the Federation. Think about it. STAW uses the X-Wing rules. That license is expiring soon. FFG is going to buy it, but instead of making ANOTHER game, they're going to just combine them. I just hope you can take Kirk on an SSD.
Finally we'll have an answer to the Enterprise-D vs ISD debate.
Next Gen? Might be a fight, but I wouldn't bet on the Empire unless I was getting some very good odds.
As for the Empire beating the original Enterprise and crew, Phantom Menace will get an Oscar for best picture and screen play first.
But I'll throw you a bone, the reboot Enterprise and crew probably could be taken out by Anny and Jar Jar.

Which were designed and built before the Tarkin Doctrine to serve a different role to the Venator, which was still the main ship of the line for the Republic. The ISD was built to replace it and serve as the main battleship for the Empire. The VSD is more modern than the Venator, and since it serves in a different role it probably remained more popular. Possibly even less expensive to build and maintain, since it's smaller, and the Empire needs a LOT of ships, what with oppressing the entire galaxy and all.
Gunships better served Tarkin's mantra of unassailable space fortresses than ships that disgorged fighters. Carriers were a republic thing, and the Empire wanted to distance themselves from the Republic... as well as operating platforms that had enough guns to glass planets.

It was just the idea of them not being big and scary enough that I was questioning.
Thing is, would you want to see them alongside ISDs and VSDs? They have such a different style, I think they'd look badly designed.
Perhaps it would be better to have dedicated clone wars factions, with a good side (Republic) and a Dark side (seperatists*) which paired up with the Rebellion era good and Dark sides.
*they were clearly bad people with bad motives, but I do disagree with the principle of forcing a system/planet to remain part of an organisation against its will, seems to me that would be like Scotland voting to leave the UK and London sending troops and planes and tanks to suppress them
I doubt they'll put out Clone Wars factions. Maybe add CW-era ships into the current ones, but expanding to the point where you can have a second set of factions will take years. After all, we've seen those super old hammerhead-style cruisers from Old Republic on Rebels. Expect to see those Wave 3/4.
I mean I think FFG's primary worry when it comes to releasing expansion content is "how do we continue to expand the options available in this game while still keeping the factions clearly the Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance?" Because imagine a setup where someone sees a game being played and it's just a bunch of weird ships (say... boxy-looking Imperial Carriers, like from the old-school PC game, Rebellion) never seen in the movies plus some bizarre squadrons on one side. Like... who is that supposed to be? Where are the Star Destroyers?

You think we'll see the new Hammerheads? They're supposed to be transports now, they'd have to be a support ship, which is something we haven't seen in Amarda yet. They're also not as pretty as the ones from KoTOR, which is a shame...
Edited by mazz0Which is why they'll probably stick to stuff in the movies and also on Rebels. Judging from my K-8 students' apparel, Rebels is fairly popular. That also means that Rebels is the perfect way to reintroduce things as cannon, and since it's moving along really well and Armada just took off, I think you'll see a LOT of crossover. X-Wing didn't have that timing advantage, because they had already run out of easily recognizable things from the movies and were already digging into EU ships by the time Rebels came out.
I'm pretty confident that I'm up-to-date on Rebels, so we're already looking at several ships we can reasonably expect to see in Wave 3:
Imperials
Interdictor-class cruiser
Arquitens-class cruiser
Gozanti-class cruiser
Sentinel-class landing craft
Inquisitor's TIE Advanced
Rebels
Pelta-class frigates (Phoenix Home)
Hammerhead corvettes
VCX-100 Freighters (ghost)
If they sprinkle in non-Rebels cannon stuff, I would also expect to see the Mon Cal Starcruiser (Liberty) as a second large ship for Rebels. I can't think of a second large Imperial ship, though. Unless they decide to bring in the Venator. They could also release TIE Defenders/Phantoms/Punishers and K-Wings and E-Wings as new squadrons.
You'll see the Venator as she was sporting imparial white at the end of sith.
So how long do you think it'll take for posts that start asking for Wave 4 after Wave 3 is announced?
Two minutes and thirteen seconds...
Maybe that's too generous ![]()
I wished I worked for FFG. . . I would have so much fun. . .
You do. You answer all the rules question they are too freaking lazy to answer for us. You post how to videos for them for free. The least they could do is give people like you, green knight, etc. free **** for doing their work for for them. People like you are growing the community while them impede it by producing crappy rules and no rules data base. I wish you did work for them so **** would actual get done right.
PS. Thanks for refraining from the whole X-wing point again. I personally appreciated that.

As for working for FFG. Hopefully they take that into account for those community volunteer program that they brought up several months ago
Again, I hope they do something for you and a few others doing their work for them. Selling you the ships at a steep discount and getting them to you early would bb one cool thing. This way, you could do the videos and rules explainations a head of time which would be helpful for the community.

Has anyone considered that the reason that there has not been an announcement regarding Wave 3.....is that there may not be a Wave 3?
