If the posts were enthusiastic, rather than being filled with lamentation, negativity, or, even dare I say it, whining...
Then I'd be all for them.

FFG's motto: Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of their woman.
I honestly just want to know what they are releasing so I can work around it with a shapeways order...outside of that I'm really not that emotionally invested in wave 3.
When one has 3 VSD's, you really don't need anything else...the Imperial is a giant pig that gets flanked like a boss and I like clone wars era tech more.
My only fault with ffg is the lack of community engagement. They should have someone pop into the forums at least every other week

Oh they do, because certain threads get nuked. So SOMEONE is reading them...they just don't ever post.
Can you imagine the feeding frenzy if an FFG posted on these forums? Especially after so much silence? people would lose their sheet.
Also if the work allocation option is either spend an hour answering our stupid questions or spend an hour getting wave 3 out, I can tell you what I would choose!
That's it, that's it. By Odin's eyeball, I'm going to just spam every wave-3 thread with lyrics to 1970s pop songs until everyone's metaphorical ears bleed.
I used to like the Venator.
Then someone told me it vaguely looks like Jar Jar's head.

Can't... unsee..... unghhhh.....
Edited by DURIt's because anytime someone starts a discussion we get the same copy/paste responses from people who seem adamant to counter any one who is enthusiastic about new announcements.
I say - Bring on the enthusiasm! More posts!
Post something other then the same drivel and I would gladly regale you with more information. It is more of the fact such posts on this topic are only really worth a copy and paste from me.

I concur with this. I am perfectly fine with discussions on what may be in wave 3 but once you start QQing it is pointless.

Would they be FFG then. . . That is something Hawk does
The community engagement piece is tough. Because that person has to be VERY careful regarding what they say. You also don't want to have non-staff members as moderators, because then you get the old GW forums. You will never find a more wretched hive of trolling and whining.

Hmmmmm I actually cant argue with the. . . maybe Warseer. . .
They would have to watch every word if they posted. . . also who says that they do not post. We may not know who they are though

Just remember that the person posting may be new, and might not have seen the other half a dozen threads on the topic. I just started on here a few weeks ago and was nervous about posting topics on certain issues for this very reason. Am I going to get an annoyed/troll response because it's already been done to death? You only have three options:
- Spend hours and hours combing through every thread that has been posted for the last year (even the search function can't guarantee you'll find similar posts).
- Don't ask your question and continue on in ignorance.
- Ask it and risk a negative response.
A copy/paste isn't a bad thing. But if there has been a lively discussion on the topic, maybe a copy/paste including a link to the larger thread, so the person can read and contribute to the conversation (which I think some of you guys do anyway).
I will agree that excessive whining is hard to take, though. I don't mind multiple "I hope to see X in Wave 3" posts, because that's, as Dras mentioned, enthusiasm. But post after post about how much Raiders suck or "OMG WHY NO WAVE 3 NEWS???!!!"

That's exactly what someone who posts for FFG would say. . .
One of the staff members told me that he used to be active on the forums until he got a job for FFG, I don't think employees are allowed to have non-official accounts - but I'll admit that I'm merely inferring from context.
I wished I worked for FFG. . . I would have so much fun. . .

Maybe. If you had a fungineering degree. Maybe went whaling on the moon. Who knows?
Do Venators exist outside the prequels - are they used a lot in the cartoon? If so, what's their role? I see they're a little bigger than a Victory Class according to Wookipedia. That's a problem, because in Star Wars land bigger is a metaphor for more powerful, at least when it come to space machines (Death Star - Second Death Star - Starkiller Base (stupid name, should have just been The Starkiller)) (ISD - Executor), which would imply that the Empire brought in a new, less powerful Star Destroyer, which obviously begs the question what was the Victory for? Was it just a test bed for manufacturing techniques used in the Imperial Class? Was it more efficient to produce than the Venators (I can imagine the Empire being more efficient than the bloated old Republic)?

Whaling on the moon would be fun but I worry something would happen. . .
Like that. . .

It could have a different combat role. I've seen them, or maybe those are Acclimators, in the Rebels show.
Acclimator -> Venator -> Victory -> Tector -> Imperator(renamed Imperial) -> Resurgent
I've noticed there is material circulating now that has the official seal of the mouse, aka - it's canon. The Venator sees heavy use in these new materials, as do v-wings/arc170 and vader in his black Eta 2. The Venator since it's debut in episode 3 has popped up in other media as well.
Basically it was a multirole combat ship that expanded heavily on the Acclimator, and was more so geared for being a starfighter carrier/warship.
In the cannon it was established that the Venator was a straight up carrier with the ability to act as a major warship and land troops. The Victory was the counter to this that was essentially a warship first, everything else second, and the Imperial that followed was basically a combination of the two.
The Venator would sit in the medium/large warship category (some say large, some say small) and would be a direct counter to the Rebel's broadside love fest and would come complete with a great squadron command ability...making them the most ideal/cost effect carrier since the Victory 1 (a role the Victory wasn't intended for btw!)
Yes Venators would be decommissioned perhaps, but the same would easily be said about the Victory and they seem to be still running around. The Venator is a solid warship that supplements larger warships, like the winged mon cal cruiser would to Home One.
Edited by Gottmituns205The Home One we have is just a standard little MC80, when we get a Liberty class I'm not expecting it to be smaller.
Consider the fact that the US has warships and aircraft that were designed and/or built decades ago still in service. Just because there's a better ship doesn't mean the Empire is going to throw out the massive fleet of Republic-era warships. While they were considered obsolete according to the Tarkin Doctrine (they weren't big and scary enough), they could still serve as a dedicated fleet carrier that still packs a decent punch. And worst case scenario they could be sent to some backwater system to hunt pirates and frighten the local farmers. Actually, they'd be much better at hunting pirates, because their larger complement of fighters and bombers would be better for chasing down and destroying the smaller ships pirates are likely to use.

The reason for the complete discardment of the Venator was much deeper than just the Tarkin doctrine. Every imperial citizen was constantly reminded of the Republic and specifically senator Jar Jar Binks due to these ships, something the Emperor could obviously not tolerate considering he had just turned the Republic into the Galactic Empire and was going to disband the senate.

I'm going to challenge that point: For starters the empire is vast...and with that vastness comes a need for ships. The Empire spent the better part of 20 years hunting down separatist hold outs, pirates, smugglers, crime organizations and eventually the rebellion. You can't do that easily when you toss solid warships into the junkyard because they remind people how things used to be...it's like cutting your right hand off because you used to do something incredibility naughty with it and it gives you shame.
The novel Tarkin mentions the Venator several times, one serves as a picket for the very base Tarkin is operating from, and later on they are shown to be on active duty. Granted this is five years into the Imperial Era, but still they stuck around even as the bigger Imperial ships showed up.
I accept the notion that as Imperial SD's came off the line, Venators went into mothballs more and more, but the total lack of them by the Galactic Civil War is silly when you put the argument that the Empire is vast into the equation. Simply put they kept Victory 1 SD's in service because they needed numbers, with the canon shake up I'll bet top dollar we will see Venators pop up more and more...as flight schools, outer rim patrol vessels...what have you.
Sure they wont be rolling about in the Death Squadron because the Dark Lord rolls with the Gucci, but I'd bet they were still around refitted to carry ties and operating in second line systems, or as general reinforcements.
Besides they look rather fetching, and would give this game a dedicated carrier and brawler for the empire that they sorely need, the Victory is nice sure, but I think the Venator would excel further.
