Do you like same Faction games ?

By Hexdot, in X-Wing

I do not. When writing scenarios I avoid Rebels vs Rebels or Imps vs Imps. Scum vs Scum is ok.to me ( so many small cartels, you know... ), but not Luke vs Poe.

This weeks I am playing several casual LGS games, and I arranged 4 T 70 plus 8 Tie into an old w40k suitcase because I do not like same faction matches. I know it is 100% legal, but no my taste.

And your's ???

THE best history part of SW (aside from the glorious days of Clone wars)

is the post-OT period of EU

the power-struggle between Moffs, Self-proclaimed emperors, rebels that can't stop the rebellion even after victory and S&V that kick each other's afts most of the time anyway

Scum vs scum is a piracy battle.

Rebels vs rebels is a fight between imperials operatives flying captured ships as a covert strike.

Imperials vs imperials is a power struggle or imperial forces stopping pirates from capturing ships from the fleet yard.

Fluff sorted.

I've been playing the game since it was released and I think I can count on one hand the number of blue-on-blue matches I've played.

Yes, you can explain it away as a training exercise or whatever, but playing old fashioned goodies and baddies is just much more fun.

If I'm playing casually, we'll normally set things up so that we're flying different factions to each other. If we're practising for a tournament, then it's more picking a list to test and sticking with it for a few games, so there will be more same faction games happening at that point.

One of the perks of there not being that many Scum players locally to me is that when I'm flying Scum in a tournament the odds of being paired against another Scum list are quite low. Although I suspect that may change with Wave 8... :)

Depends on what I want to do. For a thematic epic game I will usually go for the classic Rebel versus Imperial matchup, but with small 100 games anything goes, I do like the game on a level beyond fluff. Besides that one can still shoehorn things to be somewhat fitting with imposters, traitors etc.

*shrug* A game of X-wing is a game of X-wing. I don't really mind who plays what.

SCUM... but that is about it.

Rebels should never fight, unless their is an exposed traitor, then it would be that SOB's ship trying to get away from the rest of The Rebs.

Empire same deal as Rebs... but full on fights are not cool or fun IMO.... except for the Pirates, they fight kinda like tribes of orcs.

I have no problem with them.

Someone has to hunt down that traitorous Admiral Zaarin!

I play Rebels only (technically, I play Resistance but... you know). I am happy that in our gaming group, there are total of three Rebel players, four Empire players and one Scum player. So most of the time I play with other faction. I don't really like playing against Rebels. I feel less motivated.

As I only play the game with my kids, we never play blue on blue. It looks better on the table.

Although playing different Imperial factions against each other after the Battle of Endor does has its appeal.

I'm not a big fan of same faction vs same faction, which is why I was overjoyed when Scum & Villainy was announced.

I don't like them, it defeats the point of Star Wars. Scum vs. Scum might work if the squads are very different.

If I'm playing casually I would rather not, but if I'm playing in a tournament or something it doesn't bother me much.

Doesn't bother me. At least half of TIE Fighter was shooting down rogue Imperials after all. Rival bounty hunters duke it out all the time as well. Of them, Rebel v. Rebel is probably the least practical scenario, but mostly because the SW universe rarely properly uses the "salvaged" nature of Rebel ships.

I have no issue flying against the same faction. I've played Warhammer for years and often times you would have Imperium fighting Imperium. I play for the more competitive aspect of the game. Because of that, it means that I welcome the challenge of fighting and learning the other combinations my faction can make.

If I'm practicing for a tournament, I'll play my list vs. whatever because I know I'll face it. I've lost interest in the tournament scene lately, though, so less practicing for me.

If I'm playing casual games at the local store, I'll pull out a different faction most of the time. Sometimes people want to play my Tie Bomber list as they haven't ever played against it and want to try it. Still, I finally got to play my first game with my new T-70's last night as I didn't want Imp on Imp. I like having a different faction on each side.

Any rebel could be an imperial spy. Any imperial could be a rebel plant.

But really I don't even think about it. I'm a simple guy. I just kill stuff.

As much as I like the background of starwars (and I really REALLY do!) Xwing miniatures game is just that, a game..

I see the ships as peices thst relate to a particular rule set and gave tge same fun whether I'm playing s thematic game or an exact mirror match

Training exercises.

Mirror faction matches is a training excersice as far as I am concerned.

Yeah, I always viewed most Imp vs. Imp or Rebel vs. Rebel matches as a "war game" sort of scenario.

No fluff explains Han Solo fighting himself. Not opposed to it- but give me rebels fighting imperials over it any day.

Which no longer exists :P

Before wave 6 Blue on Blue was very common. You could almost say that more than 50% of the games were of the same faction. Still adding a 3 faction doesn't stop these but it does ease it to about half or even a third of the games.

But if you think X-wing has it bad you should check out Armada.
