Wedge says, Ello poppet.

By brandonsosoli, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I have my first competitive tournament coming up. It's not a Store Championship but being hosted by The Archer Resort in co ordinance of my local Good Games store.

The boys and I have been practising our lists and I've decided on this one.

Wedge says, Ello poppet. 100 points Rebels

Wedge Antilles (29)
Outmaneuver (3)
BB-8 (2)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Ello Asty (30)
Outmaneuver (3)
R7-T1 (3)
Autothrusters (2)
Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)
Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)
Total: 100
I found that my Wedge stacking his natual "Screw your agility" ability with his "I fly better then you" outmanoeuvring EPT really hammered my opponent. Even a cloaked Tie Phantom is brought back down to 2 evade dice when cloaked.
Throwing BB8 and the engine upgrade made it super hard for my opponent to keep an idea of where he would be moving.
Ello Asty was great too! He manage to use R7-T1 to gain the auto target lock then boost himself out of enemy arc. I threw my opponent off by using the 4K-Turn when they predicted the White Talon Roll was coming. It totally set me up and he reduced the Tie Interceptor down to 2 evade dice with his outmanoeuvre and got his range 1 bonus!.
Some how my opponent with his last 2 remaining interceptors rolled 6 dice to take out one of the Z-95's and came up 4 blanks 2 eyes without focus on either.
The last shots were from my Z-95 who on an interceptor at range 3, with 2 hull. I managed 2 hits he literally rolled 4 blanks again.
Now I understand the dice had effected the game dramatically but what the game plan here is, is to use Wedge and Ello to really change the amount of luck your opponent can have when defending.

I flew them in the BLOCK/DIAMOND formation till we got close then the Z-95's speed forward and stuck together making hard 2 turns a lot of the time. While Ello and Wedge worked independently yet side by side.
Let me know what you's think about that?
P.S. thanks to the guys on my previous posts for helping me piece together this list suggestion by suggestion.

Nice. I only switch Outmanouvers for Predator on Wedge.

I am inclined to agree. Stacking Wedge and Outmanouver gives you diminishing returns, especially if you find yourself shooting at low agility targets (a Decimator won't care if it gets Outmanouvered ;)). Also Reds are more reliable than Greens so rerolling a Red is probably going to result in more damage overall than denying your opponent a Green.

IDK, I always flew Wedge with Outmaneuver & EU, and never regret it even once. That -2 is brutal vs so much -well, except a Decimator - but whatev. For each Decimator, there a Scum Boba Fett who isnt rerollng jack. He'll terrify the other 99% of the field giving no green dice or way less they thought they'd have. BB8 is a nice addition here, OP. I haven't played Wedge since BB8 has been released.

I'd much rather take PTL. Outmaneuver is situational and often requires you to boost just to activate it, so you're giving up your focus.

Here's how BB8/PTL stacks up even when assuming you're always activating Outmaneuver.

Situation A: You boost to flank an agi-2 / agi-3 ship, but are left without a focus.

Expected Outmaneuver damage = 1.5 / 0.95

Expected PTL damage with focus = 1.6 / 1.1

Situation B: You don't spend a boost to flank an agi-2 / agi-3 ship, and have a focus

Expected Outmaneuver damage = 2.3 / 1.6

Expected PTL damage with TL+focus = 2.2 / 1.6

Again, this is assuming you're activating Outmaneuver 100% of the time. The numbers are pretty similar but PTL is just more reliable in my opinion.

Whilst PTL is definitely strong, don't forget the Stress is drawback as you are then limited to Greens or no actions in the next turn.

The combo with BB8 is what makes PTL so potent.

BB8 Barrel Roll, PTL focus or boost <stress>, green maneuver <clear stress>, TL or boost.

That's 3 actions and no stress! Your point stands that this still requires green maneuvers, but that's fine since you were going to anyway with BB8 in the first place. You can always use PTL off of a white maneuver and perform green maneuvers the next too (like a normal ship :P).

Yes.

The ONLY problem with BB-8 + push the limit is when you don't perform a green and then you're tempted to use push the limit (at least on whites) and THEN you are locked out of BB-8 next turn.

For that reason, I prefer Predator + BB-8. That way you get the attack re-roll(s) regardless of the colour of your move (and BB-8 is always an option except after a k-turn).

Yea Predator on Wedge is pretty solid too. Less action dependency and more consistent than Outmaneuver IMO.

Blade,

I'm going to try that, Predator with BB-8 on Wedge.

Wedge bb8 ia crack is my favorite build but I agree if you have the points for eu and outmaneuver go with ptl. Even advanced sensors can't do what this combo does due to not forgoing the action phase.

This is why I chose the combination. With BB8 and Engine upgrade it really change the way wedge can move. I totally understand having the mini TL off Predator but I really think Wedges ability to reduce the chances of enemy evades really makes a difference here.

Not only does it put legitimate fear into being shot by him but it really changes the way your opponent would fly. If they're always worrying about where Wedge will be it helps let me set up Ello and the Bandit Squadron.

I do want to try Pred Wedge/PTL,BB8 BOOSTING Wedge though! They both sound nice!

How do yous feel about Ello Asty?

How do yous feel about Ello Asty?

I like Ello better than Poe. Having experienced the power of white k-turns on defenders, I think he can be a beast.

Ello w/ lone wolf, R2-D2 & autothrusters = 38

I used this guy a few days ago and he single-handedly took down a pair of IG88s. With that white talon roll, he's really hard to focus fire, and its not difficult to regen any shields he's lost once you get behind something...

Hm, I didn't think about R2-D2 on him... He does have a decent enough amount of green lol

I would've loved to have seen the other guys face during that game haha.

I'd lose the autothrusters. You'll be knife fighting with Ello....

Not true.

If your making talon rolls all the time, your being predictable...

I've gotten good mileage out of the autos so far (although admittedly, I fly a lot of interceptors, so I'm pretty comfortable with 'em...)
