Luke/Biggs/Wedge not sure what to add

By Jremy75, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've wanted to run this squad since I started playing the game. I now own three X wings (I'm slow to get multiples of ships) so can finally do it. I'm just not sure which upgrades and astromechs would be good.

I don't own Integrated Astromech so that's out. I'm looking for fun to play locally not tournament winning. I'm just looking for anybody to point anything glaringly bad. I have two ideas so far.

Luke Skywalker

R5-K6

Flechette Torpedoes

Biggs Darklighter

R2-D2

Flechette Torpedoes

Stealth Device

Wedge Antillies

R5-D8

Squad Leader

or

Luke Skywalker

BB-8

Plasma Torpedoes

Biggs Darklighter

R2-D2

Ion Torpedoes

Wedge Antillies

R4-D6

Plasma Torpedoes

The first list is glaringly bad, but it gets a lot better with a couple of simple swaps.

R5-K6 can safely be laminated into your binder. It's a very bad card--like a Fire Control System that doesn't work very often. I'd replace it with R2-D2, who works very well on Luke--but not all that well on Biggs, since he tends to draw more attacks than Artoo can safely handle. But R4-D6 does work well for Biggs, because he's so often the target for your opponent's early attacks.

And the only other astromech as bad as R5-K6 is R5-D8. On average, it's almost exactly as effective at preventing damage as a focus token is, but you pay 3 points for it. Wedge would almost certainly rather have another upgrade--I'd suggest BB-8, because he really helps Wedge line up his shots.

That frees up 2 points overall. I'd suggest giving Wedge Push the Limit instead of Squad Leader, especially in combination with BB-8, and giving Luke Draw Their Fire.

Wedge w/ push the limit & BB-8 isn't bad for the points.

My trench run trio list is:

Wedge w/ predator, R2-D2 & integrated astro = 36

Luke w/ predator, R5-P9, integrated astro & proton torpedo = 38

Biggs w/ R5 & integrated astro = 26

100

I used to put the torpedo on Wedge for that extra bit of alpha strike, but with Wedge shooting first and possibly stripping shields, it has a better chance of getting a crit on hull when Luke fires it. The reasoning behind the upgrades is to ensure best possible firepower for 3 x-wings. Biggs has to die first, but what you can do is have wedge a little out of his bubble on the first turn of shooting. He might lose his shields, but can regain them with R2 and Biggs survives a little longer than otherwise. This gives you more time to dismantle your opponent's list a bit before Biggs dies. With reduced firepower coming at you, its actually hard to kill Wedge when he can regen. By the time Wedge is dead, whatever is left should be easy enough for Luke to finish off...

If you don't have all of the cards, its okay in friendly games----you can proxy (make up your own copies, or 'pretend'). Obviously not possible if you were to go to a tournament...

Thanks for the advice guys. I appreciate the better directions to go with it.
