Hello everyone, thanks so much for your help. I'm a beginner and I'm playing in my first store tournament in a couple of weeks. I would like to fly a b wing list with a hwk-290, as I really enjoy flying these ships, and the idea of the hwk as a support ship really appeals to me. I don't have every expansion, and I know that these ships might not be super hot in the meta right now, but I'm trying to build a strong list with what I have that I also enjoy to fly.

Here's what I'm thinking:

Roark Garnet (19)

Baster Turret (4)

Chewbacca (4)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

HLC (7)

Blue Squadron pilot (22)

2x

or

Roark Garnet (19)

Ion Turret (5)

Chewbacca (4)

Blue Squadron pilot (22)

FCS (2)

So is it better to have one B with HLC or to give them all FCS for action economy? I'm thinking fly and joust in formation for maximum arc coverage, with the HWK skirting the edges in order for Roark to let a B fire first and Chewbacca to make it more survivable.

An alternative list I'm also thinking of is Kyle Katarn with moldy crow and recon specialist to hand out focus, reducing to two blue squadron pilots with FCS or HLC, and adding an A wing prototype pilot with push the limit for a blocker/arc dodger.

I would suggest taking recon Jan order in hwk as she can pass other ships a focus.If you take recon specialist crew that means 2 focus every action which is really handy.Also would suggest an ion turret or twin laser turret as that way you are more likely to get at least a hit each turn.

I like your second list much more. FCS is good value and will last you an entire game. HLCs only last a few shots on B-wings (short K-turn, slow ships, etc).

For your HWK, I'd probably go with Kyle Katarn with RecSpec and Blaster Turret instead of Roark. That way he can hand out a Focus and still fire his turret. On turns where that isn't necessary, having two focus will give your turret some consistency.

Your biggest counter is maneuverable aces. If you have a Tactician, you could consider throwing Tactician and an Ion Cannon Turret on your HWK instead to try and cover some flanks. Kind of a poor man's Y-wing with TLT and R3-A2.

Try this using this B-wing build if you have the cards.

That's 44 points

My Favorite B pilot is Farlander. He is so fun to fly. Try this.

Farlander: PTL, Advance Sensors, Engine upgrade

Let's you do two actions before you move. Most of the time I do a boost or a barrel roll. Then I will target lock with PTL. Now you are stressed and you have a TL. Means a good amount of damage. It's also helpful if you need to do 1 turns or K turns. But only do one action then do those.

I have a list with Farlander and 2 Blues w Advance sensors, and engine upgrades. Granted you could drop the EU for Manglers. That works pretty nice as well.

I personally like Kyle Katarn or Jan Ors more. Jan Ors is really nice coupled with a HLC. 5 dice attack at range 3. But Roark can be nice against a Phatom especially. Before they get to use their Advance Cloaking Device.

Question about this: wouldn't jan ors crew in HWK pass an evade to other ships? I like the ion better for the turret, unfortunately don't have a tlt.

Thanks so much! Thanks for the tips about FCS, it totally makes sense with the ships being slow. Does tacticion apply for turrets, even though though it is a secondary firing arc?

If you take kyle katarn (hwk290) and crew it with Jan Orsett I believe you get to pass either a focus or anot evade.
