Han, Lando, C3PO and ptl

By Stoneface, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Last night I ran the 1300 for the second time since I got it with the above build. This morning I'm questioning if I did it correctly. This is how I played it.

1) Action: Rolled Lando

2) PTL

3) Action: Evade from Title

4) Stress from PTL

5) C3P0 kicks in for one throw once per round.

I think it was played correctly but not entirely sure. I have to say that Lando never failed to give me at least one evade and the three consecutive turns where he provided a focus + evade really ticked my opponent off.

So was this combo played correctly or do I owe my opponent an apology?

Yes it's fine, and it's probably worth noting that you can use C3PO on Lando's roll (you're rolling defence dice) to guarantee getting to use it.

Fat Han is a turtley sunnuvagun.

The correct order would be:

1 Action: Rolled Lando

1.1 C-3PO kicks in (if you want), guess number of evades, roll dice and resolve.

2. PTL
3. Action: Evade from Title
4. Stress from PTL

So this could net you four evades in the very best case.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Very much appreciated!

Keep in mind that none of these shenanigans would work against Omega Leader, as using evade tokens is adding a result, and that's considered a dice modification.

But a pretty solid combo otherwise. :)

But omega leader's ability only works if he has you TL'd, right? Last night I flew Wedge and Han vs Oicunn, OL and Wampa. Lost the first two games badly. In the first Oicunn only fired twice. Eight dice using expose for 5 hits and 3 crits unmodified. In the first 3 combat rounds no evades were rolled by either side.

The third game I made some defensive changes which gave me some added life expectancy. I think my opponent lost the third game when he rammed and killed Wedge. Without boost he was never able to get closer to Han than R2. His reliance on expose left him zero defensive rolls so I was dealing damage even at R3. Poppa Palpatine was useless but it was a very good game with Han ending the game with 2HP left.

Starting to get a better understanding of game mechanics as related to ps and upgrades but with that knowledge comes the realisation that I hate dice!

Yeah, you're quite correct about the TL, Stoneface. But if OL does get the Falcon locked, all the evade tokens in your collection aren't going to do anything. Just pray OL rolls blanks.

As the guy who first noted this combo, I am ecstatic to see others putting it out there, particularly as we get more upgrades that lower the opponent's die-rolling ability.

Vs a Tractor Beam, for instance, 3p0 would prevent 0 damage on the attack, and dodge the tractor-beam token's landing exactly 0 times as well, so this is a way for him to actually be useful in that match-up.

That's why Wedge smoked his backside early. A well timed k-turn put Wedge at R1 behind OL with four hot dice. Thanks in part to an ion torp on Wampa. Like the proverbial blind squirrel, I got lucky.

Am I missing something here? Or was this said with tongue firmly planted in cheek?

A Tractor-beamed Falcon doesn't get to activate C3P0 after receiving the token, as he isn't actually rolling dice to activate the ability.

The Tractor Beam attack doesn't actually deal damage, so C3p0 is only useful in Defense if the tractor beamer rolls poorly.

Therefore, against a Tractor Beam fleet, you're likely to want to use C3P0 to Lando Crew's ability, rather than holding it for combat.

That gives you a 30/64 chance of gaining an extra Evade Token (you guess 1 for most reliable odds. 0 is a 25/64 chance, and 2 is a 9/64 chance).

In a match-up where you're not gonna get to use Threeps for your actual defense roll, that ain't a bad back-up.

Gotcha! A little slow on the uptake. I think it's residual effects of anesthesia. That's my story anyway.

I see the importance of scheduling 3PO's properly. If the Falcon is already tagged with a tractor beam, no defense due to the -1 agility. Roll on Lando's activation and the golden coat rack is still useful. Brilliant!
