Miranda regen on 2nd TLT attack

By Wibs, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello,

A week ago I played a game with Miranda and TLT. I shot a ship with the TLT, got a hit and decided to roll one die less to regen a shield. My opponent said I could do this only for my first attack.

Is he correct? I can not find proof for his statement. The FAQ says

twin Laser turret is treated as two separate attacks against the same target. during the second attack, the “declare defender and Weapon” step is skipped.

I would say I am allowed to modify my second attack, if I did not use it on the first.

Thank you.

Yes, you can choose independently on each attack, as long as you've not yet used the ability this round. Miranda says you can, nothing else says you can't. What was his argument?

What was his argument?

He said he read it somewhere :) Not to waste time I sceptically, belived him

Thanks

You can.

Yep, no rule for this. Maybe some way he was thinking of not being able to change targets with TLT or something else that makes just as little sense.

Unless an ability references declaring a target (like R3-A2 does) it can work on either of the attacks from TLT. Both attacks are separate attacks so the once per opportunity rule doesn't stop you from using something like Predator or Tactician on each attack.

The age-old "read it somewhere" defence. Generally it doesn't hold. Personally I would have pushed a little harder. There's absolutely nothing in Miranda's card text that restricts it to a first or second attack. It's simply "when attacking", which you were. Unless your opponent had some pretty solid logic to back up his claim (other than read it somewhere), you could have beaten him down fairly easily.
