Xizor & Punishing One

By Carnor Rex, in X-Wing Squad Lists

In the spirit of this scum holiday heres a 2 ship 'fat PWT plus ace' list.

Dengar- p1, predator, gonk, unhinged astro, experimental interface, stims 56

Xizor- virago, vet instincts, sensor jammer, autothrusters, stims, flechette torps 43

Total- 99

Not quite as fat as say han but its got some tricks including regen every turn and stims. Xizor will be a nightmare late game but he's fully capable of jumping into the mix early while dengar hangs back and banks shields if dengar doesn't like the odds.

Probably won't play this, much, since its not my style but its fun to theory hammer. Any ideas to make it better lets hear em.

I don't think VI is the right choice for Xizor here. If you did take VI, you pretty much have to go with FCS or else Xizor just doesn't hit hard enough to count in a two ship list.

Attanni mindlink is tempting on both, because they won't likely use red moves (often), but then EI is a no-go. I would be okay with that though, since I don't think Dengar needs gonk. He's going to be the scum dash (I think, anyway) so he will live and die by avoiding arcs rather than relying on regen. Well, I could be wrong, its still early to say what is 'best'...

Mindlink is super tempting here actually so lets play this out.

Say ATM + R4 + FCS would pretty much guarantee they both get focus + TL + boost/BR each turn. EI would still be fine on dengar in case xizor goes down and he wants 2 actions a turn.

Neither ship cares much about stress and regardless ATM won't give a second if they are already packing one.

Xizor takes the lead while dengar makes himself small (after building a healthy token reserve) while xizor still passes damage to his regen buddy if needs be.

That Punishing One title though... 12 Points! Pow! Right in the kisser!

So is it worth it to have a full ships points on another ship... maybe... if so, I would streamline him a bit and make this a 3 ship list:

Dengar with PTL (because it's not limited to an action), Gonk, Unhinged Astromech (for the also predictable right green bank) and title.

Xizor with VI, FCS and AT

Z-95

I would really like an engine on Dengar, but I think having a blocker that is going to be mostly ignored is a better bonus than loading out a lot of extra munitions that may or may not be able to be used quickly enough. Also, this loses stress output, but a blocker can remove options just as easily and actually gets to shoot at something. It also gives Xizor a way to use either ship for a shield and Dengar can regen.

I've had a chance to think about Dengar more, and I take back what I said earlier. So far, I can see a few possible ways of running him, that all could be good in their own right.

'Brawler': predator, R5-P8, 'gonk', pun-1 & EI = 56. This is basically a jouster. Face the enemy and try to capitalize on Dengar's ability to shoot twice. R5-P8 means fragile ships like Soontir will think twice about targeting Dengar. If you lose your shields, try your best to kite and use gonk to regen.

'Dasher': push the limit, unhinged, K4 droid, pun-1 & engine = 56. Dengar trying to be Dash. Arc-dodge at PS 9, getting the same action efficiency as 'super dash' (free TL instead of free focus). You won't be able to get as much use out of Dengar's ability because keeping enemy's in front of you is less of a priority (arc-dodging being paramount).

'Scuttler': predator, R4-B11, K4 droid, extra munitions + torpedo of your choice = 46 - 50. K4 means you have no trouble getting TL + focus if needed, and predator re-roll means your torpedoes are almost fully modified shots. R4-B11 is to give value to K4 droid after torpedoes are spent. I think even advanced proton torpedoes are worth considering, but then you probably also want glitterstim and engine upgrade for maximum R1 potential...

'Xavier': attanni mindlink, R4 agromech, outlaw tech = 38. You can of course spend more points, but that's the bare minimum!

I don't think the z95 is going to be worth the loss on the other ships honestly although this is all theory here. I do love me some fleahunters though.

Dengar being ps 9 base is crazy good. There really aren't that many ships that are going to be moving after him so I think building to joust is correct. Control range with BR and dare people to shoot you since you'll win the exchange even against other fat turrets due to double tap. Thats where gonk comes into play. Dengar basically turns the list into a 3 ship list. Against arc dodgers you can always fall back on the PWT since they are going to be very concerned with keeping out of your front. Combined with xizors knife fighting capabilities that ain't gonna be easy. The icing on the cake is that if xizor gets caught in a block dengar should be able to BR into R1 of him to absorb damage on his fat ass then regen it off.

Edit:

Did a few tests with the original list. SJ felt worse than on guri where I'm used to using it. Could just be the ships I was testing against though. On the bright side the old standby of VI, FCS, AT slots in perfectly and compliments dengar better. On dengar the regen proved to be a hindrance although again just testing and new ship and all. Hes less resilient than I thought and regen doesn't help when your trying to use it instead of evade. Probably just my flying. The double tap was incredibly good with BR, when it went off, although having messed with it now I can now see how its your opponent that really controls this ability. Corran horn its not.

It seems to me that Dengar is essentially capable of filling both the Dash AND Corran roles in the Horny Dash list. Turret+Regen(Gonk)+Double Tap. Obviously not as effective as either by themselves, but together in one ship with room to spare for another ace makes him a tough customer, Now if only Talonbane had some survivability, but I like the idea of Xizor, just not sure he is the best use of points.

I think the more standard xizor add stims/torps can pull his weight. NOT as well as the other aces in typical 2 ship lists but in return he can play a little more loosely than them due to his ability. Kinda cool to have such a concept available to scum anyway.
