The Jumpmaster, gloriously stupid or stupidly glorious?

By ficklegreendice, in X-Wing

hey guys

so with everyone gushing about the new upgrades, I can't help but notice that there's not much talk about the toilet-seat shaped ship coming out with them.

bearing ept, torpedo, crew, salvaged astro, AND illicit upgrade slots, the Jumpmaster 5000 appears to approach the Ghost when it comes to sheer customization. Question is, what can we build out of this lovably goofy thing?

I've already been harping on the Torpedo Boat, using deadeye +r4 to fire ordnance (plasmas) without TL and obtaining re-rolls on the target. Coming in at 33 points, it's already set to be the new triple bounty hunter (even room left over to shove 4lom into one of them!) and a crazy tantalizing thing to play.

One other, incredibly silly loadout is the S.S **** Soontir

Scout (25)
Intimidation (2)
Intelligence Agent (1)
R5-p8 (3)
Feedback (2)
Anti-pursuit laser (2)
[35]

by giving even the generic an ept slot, FFG has created a lego-set of options that eclipse the silly title. How else do you guys envision using this new guy?

other random thoughts,

Manaroo makes a nice torp boat as well. If she has no shot, she can toss the deadeye focus (maybe even the r4 TL) onto a buddy who actually has a shot

Tel Treva is most likely our fat PWT wanable. Funny interaction with hull upgrade + ability leads to extra durability; not sure if it's enough since it isn't sustained damage reduction

Current "Fat PWT" build:

Dengar (33) (Super Dengar)

*p1 (12)

*PTL (3)

*Unhinged (1)

*k4 (3)

*EU (4)

[56]

of all the fat PWTs, the jumpmaster is uniquely defensively challenged; almost like Dash but without the KK focus or r2-d2 crew. He makes it up with some interesting maneuverability, high PS and an incredible offense with his ability

Unhinged, K4 Dengar

White sloops in a corner ad infinitum. Just because.

I'm afraid VCX with Hera spamming 5ks and making defenders jealous have that silliness covered

For added fun with that Torpedo boat, you can spend two points to take Glitterstims. That gives you full mods on at least one torpedo shot.

Yes, but why go straight when you can fly in the shape of a banana? Space bananas are far more exciting than Hera.

Well at the cost of actions, unlike defenders, jm5ks or unstressed ello so maybe not that jealous.

I can't wait to use Dengar. He's a PS 9 ship that can reposition after executing a maneuver, an excellent dial, and a very potent ability. R5-P8 on him will help dish out more damage. If you have another carrier for Boba crew then you free up the space for a Gonk to help him stay alive longer. Predator on him for days.

Pair him with other offensive threats and hammer away. What's not to love?

the irony of this ship is that I actually can't see it being used as a PWT, which may be why I like it so much

Even with gonk, Tel (who may have the effective health of your typical fat ass with his ability + hull) will not have the sustained damage reduction necessary to compete (Seems the standard is two, between falcon title + c3po) nor the means to stack actions using gonk (ptl/experimental + dat dial = shady prospect). Even with r4, he won't have the damage output to even come close to han or cheri's dumb action independent mods + gunner

makes me think they deliberately designed around Dengar's incredible ability, which would probably destroy anything if it had fat han levels of damage cancel.

best I can imagine is

Dengar (33)

*p1 (12)

*recon (3)

*r4 (2)

*veteran instincts (1)

[51]

which is actually, interestingly, more closely priced to an aggressors than a fattie (until you add EU, anyway).

Dengar (33) (Super Dengar)

*p1 (12)

*PTL (3)

*Unhinged (1)

*k4 (3)

*EU (4)

[56]

2 points less than super Dash; greens at every speed (though only one right green with unhinged at speed 3). Defensively lacking, but offensively potent and moves like a bat out of hell; dodges r3-a2 much more easily than Dash

not as much as you'd think, with FCS and Ezra

dang thing's 0 agility anyway, who needs actions :P?

requires proper kigo

moon thinks very hard

My first thought:

Slightly dissapointed about the dial. I mean it's too good. White s-loop is huge and the only real drawback is that the greens go to one side. Boohoo. I was expecting one of the turns to be red.

Generic seems VERY cheap for PS3 with EPT especially compared to wild space fringer.

This is going to be a very strong ship.

as far as PWTs go, the dial is about on par I'd say. They're all largely consequence free.

the asymmetry is weird. The left side can do whatever the hell it wants, but the right sengor's combined with left greens will pull you back into the fight like a jouster (if you elect to shed stress, anyway)

stat-wise, I'd say it's fair. the Fringer was probably overcosted to start as the first generic PWT (that didn't completely suck ass...poor ORS). Comparing the Scout to the K, nearly identical stats with none of the drawbacks of having a large base, it seems more than reasonable.

don't think anyone's going to be taking any tournies with four of them in tow. Not enough dice

got some PTSD flashbacks right there, mate :(

nothing but power armor, as far as the eye can see...

I'm thinking of Attanni Mindlink for a second. You share all Stress and Focus, even if already stressed. What if you combined Guri with A.M. to Dengar with A.M.? Dengar can take that 2 red sloop and if Guri is still nearby, they all get a Focus.

I do think Tel Trevaru w/ Gonk and Hull Upgrade will be good. Go slow and load up on the shield tokens. Take hits and bug out for a while to recharge. Maybe PTL? That would allow you to Barrel Roll and get that shield back to avoid hits. Throw on R5-P8 to help discourage someone shooting at you.

Dengar (33)
Attanni Mindlink (1)
K4 Security Droid (3)
Unhinged Astromech (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Punishing One (12)

Bossk (35)
Attanni Mindlink (1)
Boba Fett (1)
Greedo (1)
K4 Security Droid (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Total: 99

This list is weird but could be fun. One can boost or whatever while still getting its focus + TL. White segnor with Boost/BR should be fun.

It is glorious.

It's definitely an interesting ship, and you need to keep in mind all of its parts when building it out.

At PS9 with native Barrel Roll, Dengar with an Engine Upgrade can play the high-PS arc dodger as well as anyone, but his dial dictates that you're absolutely going to need Unhinged Astromech in order to make PTL work. You're not going to dodge many arcs when your opponent knows you're probably turning left.

Alternately, Dengar can play chicken with his enemies and simply dare them to shoot him. Give him VI, and bring Bossk, Plasma Torpedoes, Extra Munitions, Guidance Chips and R5-P8. He shoots at PS11, so before just about everyone but VI Vader and if your opponent dodges the attack then he gets a focus and a target lock on that ship. If they try to shoot his glass cannon self after that, they eat an R5-P8 attack plus a focused, Guided torpedo attack. AKA the, "No, really, F*** YOU SOONTIR" build.

If you want to do a more traditional Fat Turret, then Tel Trevura with Donk is your guy. The only ship in the game that can go from "taken enough damage to die" to "I regenerate to full shields and you get no MOV for this."

Looking for support? Manaroo with Attani Mindlink can give her focus token to her partner, and then get it back because of the link.

Put Bossk on Dengar. That could be good.

So....dengar is ....brown.

Has strips of wiping paper stuck all around him....and...flys in a toilet seat.

OK.

Huh.

To be honest i dont think the Jumpmaster wants to get stressed, the green moves are pretty limiting (go left or go straight duh). Unless you have unhinged astro that is.
