Star Wars Art & Image Resource Archive

By GreyMatter, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

(Apologies if this thread has been covered elsewhere.)

Hey everyone,

I know that there can be no such thing as a definitive Star Wars art resource -- the Internet is awash with content and it is impossible to collect it into a single location.

That being said, I'd be curious to know if there is a consistent or reliable source of high-resolution, high-quality images that people *do* use as a resource for their campaigns.

I'm starting up a new Obsidian Portal campaign, and OP is great in that it's relatively easy to include beautiful content on-site (even if the layout can be a pain in the arse). Hoping to discover where people find images for their own campaigns, and maybe collect these resources into a single thread.

Bing lets you select image size/resolution in searches. Should fit your need.

I hadn't actually seen that one before. Thanks for the tip!

I use google image search. I have found Bing is not that good.

Some people have suggested to me that Pinterest is actually a good place to find curated collections of images, but it keeps asking me to sign in (otherwise it is unusable) and I'm old and cranky and have already reached my Social Media Platform Limit of 1 (Facebook).

The problem I have with SWAG is that they removed their search functionality. I admit it wasn't great but removing it makes finding what you want very very difficult.

Yah I agree, pinterest is a pain and I relented on an account for them.

So? Use google to search SWAG via the "site:<domain>" option of Google.

Worst part about Pinterest is that if you're not logged in with an account, it shoves a "please register or login" overlay in your face that you can't get rid of.

(In a related note, you now need an account on TVtropes to switch to the "nightvision" skin, whereas it used to be a simple switch...)

That can be okay, but it can also be highly variable. I’ve found some really good stuff on DeviantArt.com, but then I’ve also found some not-so-great stuff there.

Just like any art, I think — some is good, some is not so good, and you have to be careful to pick and choose what you use.

The thing I’ve started doing recently is to use Google image search in reverse mode, so I have an existing image already and I want to find other examples of it, or ones that are very similar.

I’ve used this method very successfully to locate higher-resolution versions of images that I already had. And sometimes the “related” images are also useful.

A pinterest account is actually worth it. You can follow different collections so that you don't have to worry about updating it yourself. Or you can create your own and once you have an account adding pictures to it is fairly straightforward and simple. I have found so many Star Wars pics I wouldn't have otherwise found by using pinterest. It's really a great resource.

Unless they're breaking the site and putting up an image of the page with html over it, you can get rid of the overlay. I use Firebug for HTML inspection. I can remove content from pages I'm looking at, and even alter them. So, overlays can just be gotten rid of :)

What?!?! It is useful. My Star Wars art access has increased 10 fold since I started using pintrest 6 months ago. I've also found art that while not directly related to Star Wars fits the themes. So it's been real useful when I want different ideas for planets and cities. Plus .....unlike FB it kinda leaves you alone (though you will have to turn notifications off).

I really like and utilize Deviantart.com. they have a lot of star wars images some original and some we have seen in other books or sites. They also have a decent search tool
