Ship names for TIE Defenders

By Biophysical, in X-Wing

I have one ship done. Rexler Brath is flying the "Ultima Ratio". Those familiar with the phrase can see how far many domains of nerd-dom I'm hitting with this act (my wife counted 6).

So I'm trying to figure out some other stylish, evocative names to pair with my Defender pilots. Bonus points for a nice historical context. I'd like to do one for each named pilot, although I don't think I'll buy enough Defenders to make generics (they'll have to borrow an ace's ship).

This leaves:

Colonel Vessery

Maarek Steele

Countess Ryad

I really think that Vessery should be "Ultima Ratio" since his ability synergizes so well with cannons.

The full quote is "Ultima Ratio Regum", or "The Last Argument of Kings". Rex being the nominative (and singular) form of "King" in Latin, I liked the word play.

Considering Countess Ryad flies a red TIE Defender, i would call it the Bathory

If

Countess Ryad = Bathory

then

Col. Vessery = Giles de (Vesse)Rais

I'm going to take a hard pass on that one.

Yeah, but cannons man! Stamped on!

I get the tie-in (hur hur) with Rex; going for the same with Tyrannus. I have no other suggestions for Vessery, though. :(

Rex rocks cannons just as hard as the Colonel.

Hmm. I got the Ultima games, Final Fantasy games and...math? I dunno.

Maarek Steele

Any ideas?

Vox Imperatoris. If you played TIE Fighter, you should get the reference

It's good. But whatever Emperor's Reach is would be better.

I thought Steele was likened to

Woden, Sky God of War...!?

Yeah, but unfortunately, a Defender is six pointed, not eight, so Sleipnir wouldn't be a good fit I thought.

Given that lorewise vessery had 3 squadrons he led compared to rex's only one there are many options.

Vessery's Squads were:

Stranger Squadron

Interlooper Squadron

Requiem Squadron

I like the latter one most, given that it consisted to a huge part of the believed-to-be-dead Rogue Squadron.

So with that and his deadly accuracy he quite literally celebrates a requiem mass for his enemys. On top you may take the analogy to the well recognized film and call Vessery's ship "Requiem for a Dream"!

In full latin: Requiem (pro) somnium

There's a reason I went with "voice":

Imperatoris complexum venire posset

Twiddledee and Twiddledum

Oooh! Delendam (straight out of the ceterum censeo carthaginem esse delendam)

To quote Pratchett:

Carpe Jugulum

Carpe Jugulum for the win.

And made any decision yet, Bio?

Vae Victis, how could I've left that one out.

And for a trio of Defenders Veni Vidi Vici.

And made any decision yet, Bio?

No, and probably won't be until I finally sit down to paint. I am keeping all the suggestions for when I get to it, though.

If you ever feel the urge to name a Phantom:

Kwisatz Haderach; the one who can be many places at once.

From Dune of course.

You gonna post the pics here or another thread?

Eventually. I took pics, and then convinced myself it needed re-done.

Captain Yorr and Colonel Jendon are also members of the Onyx Squadron under Rexler Brath.. Count those two in.
