4 ship imperial...my dream perhaps

By Velvetelvis, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Echo..ept..meh who knows

..ACD,etc...

Omega leader juke,com relay

Wampa

Howlrunner

I really like the fo tie, I've been toying with something similar using only fo pilots.

TIE Phantom: · "Whisper" (32)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Fire Control System (2)

Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

Recon Specialist (3)

TIE/fo Fighter: · "Zeta Leader" (20)

Veteran Instincts (1)

TIE/fo Fighter: · "Epsilon Leader" (19)

TIE/fo Fighter: · "Epsilon Ace" (17)

Although howlrunner is probably a better choice. Haven't tried it yet but I see the potential.

Echo with VI, ACD, and Kallus.

Omega Leader with Juke and Comm Relay.

Wampa

Lieutenant Colzet with X1 and either Accuracy Corrector, or FCS.

AC makes Colzet more useful by himself, where FCS makes his ability easier to trigger. Your mileage for each will vary depending on your style.

Kallus on Echo gives her a small boost against high PS aces that will shoot before her, and let you take an evade action when necessary without fully sacrificing your offensive modifier against them. You could also stick FCS in there to be more offensive.

Wampa drops the card under the shields, Colzet turns it over. Omega hunts the aces, and Echo does whatever she wants (preferably to the highest PS fighter, as quickly as possible).

I've run something similar, albeit with Vader instead of Echo, to some success. Echo is good, but she'll suffer from the low PS, hence Kallus (who you could drop to take Whisper instead). Wampa draws a lot of attention, so you can use him as bait at times. Against twin large ships, he's nearly better as a blocker than anything else. Colzet becomes a concern whenever a ship is toting any damage cards, so you can do the same with him, and also serves as a good blocker if you stick AC on him (who needs actions to roll hits every time?).

Here's what I tried casually,

Echo,crack shot,sensor jammer, ACD,agent kallus

Omega leader,comm relay,juke

Wampa naked

Howlrunner naked.

I think the strength is in having a lot of good targets to pick from leaving three other trouble makers making trouble.

The weak spot is probably howlrunner but nothing to change her for.

Also, have tried a couple different ept on echo and I suppose I should go back to VI, it just wasn't any good to me in the games I played that night.

Options I am considering are calculation +recon spec

Maybe lightning reflex instead of crackshot.

I know there's wiggle room with this list but in general I feel it's the direction I want to work on

Three p.s.8 ships isn't awful even if two of them are fancy ties.

I am even tempted to strip the ACD and try engine and ptl on it.

I'm close....but haven't quite cracked what I want from this egg yet.

What about swapping one of those ships for Palpatine on a basic shuttle? He turns Wampa from a 'maybe' into a murder machine, and can back up the other pilots - or himself - in a pinch. A list I'm probably gonna test soon is:

Omicron Group Pilot
Emperor Palpatine
Ship Total: 29

"Wampa"
Ship Total: 14

Darth Vader
Veteran Instincts
Advanced Targeting Computer
Engine Upgrade
TIE/x1
Ship Total: 35

"Zeta Leader"
Veteran Instincts
Ship Total: 21

TOTAL: 99

VI probably isn't the strongest choice for Zeta Leader, but I picked him (her?) over Howlrunner for having a ton of dice and being able to throw them at short range while still getting a TL/Focus. Howlrunner's predictable and honestly not too strong without at least a mini-swarm.

I play OL in a 3 ship build. I think taking stealth device away from him is a mistake. I'm pretty new to flying imps, but they seem very dependent on upgrades. I'm running 3 ships with 3-4 upgrades on each.

howl runner is out and mauler mithel with VI is in baby. It's getting closer to what I think I want.

Plus, now more room to operate points wise.( I did VI on mithel just to break PS 9 with....something) still only 99.

So my wiggle space is still there for different stuff on echo and or the others.

I think, for the same price, wired on Zeta leader would benefit more.

His mechanic makes him take a stress almost every turn. So your green manoeuvers will be predictable even if you move last. And let's be honest most of the time you will not move last even with VI. So many vi poes and vi vaders out there, and i'm not even talking about all the Aces with better action economy. You might aswell make the most out of this stress token with wired and spend your action on a defensive action like evade and BR.

You want focus fire and that first pass is very important. Zeta leader is so good at that because hits hard for a tie.

Zeta....leader...

Well, I know how I missed Wired: I was only looking through the cards I own, and I never got a bloody TFA starter kit. But yeah, you're right, DEFINITELY the superior pick.

Another 4-ship list I've been looking at is:

Decimator (Patrol Leader)

Darth Vader

Tactical Jammer

Wampa

2x Tempest Squadron with Tie/x1 and Accuracy Corrector

The best players in my meta are SERIOUS Soontir fans, and being able to push damage on Fel with a disposable Decimator and Vader seems the best solution to my woes. A friend is running a Kenkirk Deci that's kitted out to go with the Vader Deci, but I'm thinking a 4-ship solution might work as well; the Tempests are reliable and reasonably durable damage dealers, and Wampa is threatening enough that they might focus on him at the start instead of whittling the Deci down further.
