Munitions heavy bomber swarms - viable now, with guidance chips?

By joyrock, in X-Wing Squad Lists

3x scimitar squadron pilots with xx-23, cluster missiles, extra munitions and guidance chips

Jonas with xx-23, concussion missiles, extra munitions, guidance chips, and crack shot or veteran instincts

Would this be a viable list? I feel like it'd still get torn apart by arc dodgers.

Jonus is the weakest element of this list. Try to use 4 scimitars. And add seismics against arc dodgers.

To be competitive bombers must have close combat missiles/torpedoes, long range missiles/torpedoes and bombs. I think so.

I don't think they need close combat ones. They'll hit hard in close combat still, but get the most effectiveness at longer ranges, where they'll also get added defensive bonuses against anyone not using secondary weapons. And why is Jonus the weakest element? There's no limit to his ability, so cluster missiles get 4 rerolls, which can be very strong.

I did consider using some bombs, but if I'm flying in formation, that would limit me in options, I'd think.

Jonus is weak due to stacking formation flying on top of ordnance TL restrictions

It makes you super predictable, basically

Besides, homing missiles do his job for you

Something I've been testing to great effect has been:

Gamma Squadron Veteran 19

-XX-23 Thread Tracers 1

-XX-23 Thread Tracers 1

-Crack Shot 1

-Guidance Chips 0

Gamma Squadron Veteran 19 (x3)

-Dead Eye 1

-Proton Torpedo 4

-Extra Munitions 2

-Guidance Chips 0

It's exactly 100 points and with dead eye you don't have to advertise who you're targeting till it's too late for them to escape. Really consistent damage as well. The worst result I've seen from a torpedo is 2 hits and a crit.
