Superior Positions "Damage"

By Rocmistro, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

I think we can say Superior Position reward positioning. As long as it gives a position advantage and gives point to get specific shots (gotten more easily by good navigation rather than by accident) I think it is obvious. Squadrons are the most agile tool on the table and they easily kick-ass with impunity. Anyway... There are others: CR90, Raiders, and dammed motherf*****s who navigates like demons XD

I suppose I can see where placing your ships to mutually support each others rear aspect becomes more important. Defensive setup to ensure that when one of the enemy positions himself to shoot your rear you have a ship where it can get him better. As far as squadrons go, I think this objective would favor dropping the bombers completely. Since any damage is a victory point, get those fast survivable fighters to get to that rear arc and stay there. As a Rebel player all x wings (or maybe all a wings?), for Imperials the base Tie swarm with boosted coms? My point is that even if the objective doesn't favor one type of fleet, it will strongly favor a fleet that has been optimized for it. I don't use this anymore, but if I were going to I would build my fleet for this and modify what I had to to be competitive for my other two objectives.

Superior Positions works great with an Imperial Rhymerball or Fireball - the simple fact that your bomber contingent doesn't need to be at distance 1 to make an attack is huge, and allows them to score you more victory points without having to use Squadron commands.

Interesting Topic! I had always thought that to get the Victory tokens from Superior Position, you had to deal a damage card.

You learn the most interesting things here.

That's a pretty common mistake, "a damage" is referenced several times, and it's easy to read into that too much (I'm guilty myself with the crit where you take a damage when you reveal your command.)
