I will be introducing a few of my friends to Star Wars Imperial Assault this weekend and thinking of the best way to create a great experience for them,
Best Way to Introduce New Players - Twin Shadows or Full Campaign?
I would start with the introduction to rules game. in the core set. then tell them about the campaign, and how they gain xp after missions. this lets you buy stuff. show them their individual class decks after the intro game. after they know the rules they will understand the powers in the class deck, and hopefully get excited.
Then i would recommend starting with the Twin Shadows Campaign. its shorter, a bit streamlined. (no side missions
but that is something you can mention after.). if they like it you can tell them about the core campaign. but tell them it is a longer investment of time.
Yea I was all about playing thematically with my group but in hindsight the core campaign is a massive investment for first time players, especially those new to board games. I would do as Spidey suggested, TS is a great buffed up look at the game in story mode and will be fun for them to cut their teeth. The only problem is that you probably won't finish it that night.. so it might even be a better idea to pick a few core missions to create your own little campaign?
Twin Shadows for sure because of the first mission where it takes place in a familiar setting and two fan favourite characters make an appearance. ![]()
Just come ready with a prebuilt group of heroes with purchased class cards/items.
Yeah, Twin Shadows is littered with recognizable faces. Its a great place to start. I would recommend picking up the ally packs so you have the minis for those faces.
Yes, I too would go with Twin Shadows as it (hopefully) isn't going to dissuade new players by its length. I found some of the players I introduced to the game were a bit put off by the length of the core campaign originally.
Definitely get the Boba Fett Villain pack, and the other two also if you can.
Twin Shadows is better.
Twin shadows campaign got me hooked
Thank you everyone. The general consensus seems to be to start with Twin Shadows despite the learning curve with XP points and cards.
