Does anybody have any ideas for simple yet competitive builds?

By Plainsman, in X-Wing

I had fun playing with 4 T70 with Integrated Astromech and R2 unit. Simple, good maneuvrability, fair resiliance, enough firepower. I have yet to try it in a tournament, but i think it could do well. I'll eventually do it, but there is so many thing I want to try and I prefer team that can pull many tricks.

It's a great list for a tourney. Done well with it myself.

Looks like fun. Too bad it isn't tournament legal yet.

1X blue sq B wing with FCS, BWING/E2 and jan ors.

Tarn Mison [R7 Astromech, Integrated Astromech] (25)

Blue Squadron Novice [R2 Astromech, Integrated Astromech] (25)

Gold Squadron Pilot [Twin Laser Turret] (24)

Gold Squadron Pilot [bTL-A4 Y-Wing, R3-A2, Twin Laser Turret] (26)

This should not be to hard to fly, you do not need a solid game plan as each ship is strong on its own. Just get a bit of practice with the stresshog to counter aces and you should have great games at competitive level.

Edit: Heavers WC list is stronger but does need a very strong game plan.

Though for pure simplicity and efficiency 4BZ, 5Kirax, 6CrackTies takes the cake.

Green Squadron Pilot (28), Proton Rockets, Push the Limit, Autothrusters, Crack Shot

Miranda is ridiculously easy to play.

The greens deliver one hell of an alpha strike with their prockets/crack shot combo and be generally annoying after that.

(plus A-wings are the most fun you can have with your pants on IMO)

Doesn't get much simpler than swarmy lists. Just point the business end of your ships at the enemy and roll away. It does become difficult to manage though after a course of a tournament. Flying that many ships can drain you mentally.

A swarm mighty be simple for the list building phase but it's far from a simple list to play

Could try a Feedback swarm

Scum Z's with feedback array.

Simple list to build and fly. If ya can't shoot em just zap em.

The only down side is that number of feedback array cards you will need.

If I remember correctly it came with the IG-2000, hopefully it was two that it came with....

Unless I misplaced them.. (I think not)

I have only 2 feedback arrays. And two IG's. Thus only one per IG. :(

soontir fel ptl,autothrusters,royal guard

howl runner swarm tatctics and hull upgrade

2 epsilon squadrton Tie FOs

1 academy pilot

Bugger!!

Well that explains why I've only seen the one feedback Z swarm.

**** scary though

Guri- predator, sensor jammer, autothruster (should be 40 points unless I'm forgetting something)

3x Kablammos

Takes the concept of the 5x kaboomafoos and just condenses two of them into an ace. It's slightly more complicated but still pretty simple. I'd say the ace+miniswarm template is pretty simple to play in general as long as your ace isn't a TIE Phantom or something

Yeah, Ace + mini-swarm can work nicely. I used something with a broadly similar idea at the local store champs, but possibly even simpler.

Xisor, Virago, Predator, Autothrusters, Advanced Sensors (40)

Syndicate Thug, Twin Laser Turret (24)

3x Binayre Pirate (12 ea.)

Xisor and the Pirates fly as a mini-swarm, keeping the Prince in range 1 of at least one of them for his ability. The Y goes off on its own a bit to cause mischief and give the opponents something else to think about. And because it's not a BTL, it can always shoot, so you're usually doing damage. It's pretty easy to fly (it has to be for me not to screw it up...) and can hit damned hard. One game saw me take Wedge (with IA) down in round 2 and Poe in round 3, and another had me take down a Soontir + FO Aces list with barely a scratch.

I was more pointing out what the OP was asking. Flying a swarm is difficult, but there isn't a whole lot of pilot interactions or upgrade cards you have to keep track of. Usually its stay in range 1 of Howlrunner is the most you have to manage.

This is exactly what I was getting at! Figuring maneuvers and actions for even 8 ships at a time is a piece of cake for me vs. keeping track of the synergies of three ships laden with pilot abilities and upgrades!
