Fox and the Hound (X-Wing List)

By Grayfax, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I have seen this list in other places once I started to put my thoughts for Rebels in order, but the names I have seen have been very generic. As many top players have said, any current Rebel list must include the Stressbot, so what goes with it and what do you call it?

"Fox and the Hound"

Poe Dameron (31)
Veteran Instincts (1)
R5-P9 (3)
Autothrusters (2)
"Red Ace" (29)
R2-D2 (4)
Comm Relay (3)
Integrated Astromech (0) "Eject R2-D2 Safety Button"
Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
R3-A2 (2)
BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0)
Total: 99
So... my proposal is "Fox and the Hound" for this as it can have opponents chasing after either the Fox "Red Ace" or the Hound "Poe Dameron" and the hunt is on for finding the right place to spring the trap. If this already has a superior name, please let me know, but this clicks with who is in it and what it does... and actually makes me want to fly Rebels and X-Wings. Which also makes me need to pick up 2 T-70 X-Wings, but is now a good justification instead of a wish.
And, honestly, with my Rogue Squadron jersey coming in March, I need something to put on the table for the Rebels!

... I like it. Hard to focus down, force hard choices on the opponent, and punish them no matter which they choose

Keep forgetting about Integrated Astromech, season to taste! My thought on it is that you aren't really saving the ship (sorry Red Ace), but that you are ejecting R2-D2 so that he can make his appearance in the next movie after being picked up by C3P0 in whatever ship he is currently in distress on!

I won a tournament with almost the same list but elected to go with the Lone Wolf Poe instead of VI. Just something I like flying only 3 ships and Red Ace actually being main tank in this. Plus with R5-P9 on Poe he really needs to stay away from the stress inducers so I broke him away from the other 2 a bit. It does rather well if you work the asteroid field to your advantage and engage on your terms.

I flew against A-wings, to which regen is a hard counter, a Punisher list, Scum Boba and 2 TLT Y-wings, and lastly Soontir, Carnor, Omega Leader. The game that was a nail-biter for me was Boba. He kind of moved a little far from the y-wings so I went to work on them first. He popped glitterstim on a good tide turner for him and finished off Poe quicker than I'd thought would happen. Ended up being Red Ace vs Boba and I just squeaked it out.

I think that is a good option on Poe. Mostly, I'm keeping him VI because the Palpatine / Vader / Soontir list is still prevelant enough that I don't want to have two ships out-dodging me. I'm expecting Vassal to start swinging wildly with all the new cards, so I'm not sure how it will shake out in a month or two as people start dialing in their Regional lists. Mostly I just want to get better at flying them, because I think it is a strong list going forward for the forseeable future, but it does require some care in the approach.

Looking through lists on ListJuggler and seeing that a lot of people are dropping the Stresshog to an Ion version instead of the TLT and then adding autothrusters to Red Ace. Not ready to change over to that yet, but it might be something I'll test out in the future. Any thoughts of one versus the other? I guess it boils down to "is stress better than autothrusters" or the other way around?

Ok, finally have all the pieces to put this on the table and fly it... not just on Vassal. Once I've flown this quite a few times, I'll try some variations and see if there is something better for it. In Vassal, suddenly I have found people flying TIE Swarms (Hateful 8 in one and Vader plus Black Crackshot in the other) and I was not prepared... so that is definitely something to practice against.
