Theories/Guesses on Next Expansions?

By FatherTurin, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Shadows of the Empire and Dark Forces sound sexy as hell. However I think we will only be seeing film stuff in the near future. Assuming such my suggestions are;

-Jabba's palace

-Bespin

I don't mind what we get, as long as they hold off doing TFA or stuff from the rebels series for a few more waves yet.

That said, I would really like another ship interior, like a Blockade runner or something similar.

I agree about holding off TFA and Rebels. I'd much rather see OT material more fully developed, as there will be time enough for "new" Star Wars movie/tv material in the next few years/decades.

I would like to see a bigger rush to get characters out and maybe even revisit different versions of characters. For example, we have a farmboy Luke, how about Jedi Knight Luke? It's not like it's too soon for something like that.

I still think a lava set would be cool with some environmental hazards and lava...Creatures.

Sullust would be cool.

Lava terrain could add something new as well. You can move through it without penalty, but you may not end your movement on it.

if you've played on Sullust in Battlefront, you can walk over the lava, but if you stand on it it'll hurt you. Could be an interesting new terrain dynamic.

Just curious but why are we assuming the next one is a small box? Are we going off the descent order of release or?

It could very well be a big box or something in between small and big box, no? Or has there been an announcement I missed?

I am under the assumption of a cheap small box is the next release. To be honest, if there was an announcement than I missed it as well. ^_^

The reason I assume a small box since the Core was a big box, Twin Shadows was small, followed by Return to Hoth which was a big box. Going by that process is why I assume small.

As what other people have said, following the trend of Twin shadows.

We can expect a small expansion with 2 heroes, 4 imperials and 4 scum. The expansion also wont come with enough titles to create a new biome.

We have done sand, there is still Fancy indoor tech, scummy indoor tech, and forest/jungle titles.

Bespin could work for a small expansion since it is all interior stuff. Another expansion could be Dagobah using jungle titles with a few swamp titles.

I am hoping the big box at the end of the year will be something with Lava terrain similar to Sullest or Mustafar.

I am still hoping for some extending universe stuff. Kyle Katern is such a classic rebel and Dark trooper or Hazard trooper are two types of units we could see.

Ha, my bad, I meant to say big box where I said small box :) So many box sizes!!!!

Gosh there's so much I still want. Shadows is the one I kind of want the most, I just loved that game as a kid. And I think there's enough it could probably be sorted in tiles as I think through the missions in my head...

Hoth, 'canyon level', Ord Mantel, Imperial Transport, Tattoine, Xizors Palace. Heck, they even got most of the baddies from the game. Which kind of means it wouldn't really add much tile variety, and certainly not anything new in terrain type technically. It would be a good set to introduce speeder bikes in though, as that's the only baddiei can think of. and I'm excited for that. Especially since they put a speeder bike in one of the command card arts which I consider potential spoiler. Could be a set that focuses on mobility, So it would maybe look like...

Small box: New campaign Hero's (2) Swoop Gang (2 of 2x1), Syndicate Thugs (4 of) Imperial Jet pack Trooper (2 of), some other thing picked from around the theme, Dewback riding Stormtrooper maybe? Tiles for 'Nice indoor/Station' backs to 'Junkyard/Scum hideout' fronts?

Support wave: Dash Rendar/Leebo (mounted and on foot, plus Leebo three pack), New Campaign Villain/Xizor (solo pack), Jetpack Trooper pack, Swoop Gang pack

Auxiliary wave: Skirmish stuff, Hoth Imp Tank for instance. With alternate Pilot?

Bespin would be great, but doesn't really have the tile background it needs per se, so basically that would be it's shtick: new indoor stuff. But all you basically get figure wise is what? Ugnaughts? Mynocks would be a good add in here I think. Not much else I can think of though.

Jabbas Palace would be something. Tiles are supported and can work in some new b sides. Rancor, Gammoreans, Sand Troopers all work well here.

Endor I think is being saved for a big box. And is probably next after the small coming now so they can pave the way straight to new trilogy stuff in time line terms. It will be an exciting box too I feel.

Spark of Rebellion on Lothal could be coming very soon as either a small or a large expansion. That one will mostly depend on what Disney tells them to do with it. And if X-wing is any indication...

Whatever they do,I just want an original content astromech Droid Hero to play as. Like a T3M4 or something.

Edit: and as soon as Disney sellers on an actress to play Mara Jade, she's in TWO COMMAND CARDS! 0_o

For my own part, I also hope they fill out the range from Episodes IV, V and VI before delving into The Force Awakens. I hope we'll get Cloud City, Endor and something around Jabba's palace/Sarlacc Pitt (who doesn't want to play a skirmish with those skiffs circling the pit?).

But my deep hope is that they'll start releasing some alternate versions of the iconic characters: Luke as Jedi, Leia in her white robes and sporting blaster, Leia disguised as a bounty hunter, and Chewie with Threepio bundled up on his back.

By the way, does anyone have any insight into whether the game designers at FFG pay attention to these threads? I hope so...

They probably don't. There's such a huge time gap between design and license greenlighting and production and release that I bet they have everything designed and planned at least a year in advance. That makes reading fan wishlist threads counterproductive.

Besides, most large creative companies actively avoid fan suggestions to avoid the potential legal quagmire when the fan comes knocking at the door wanting money for his brilliant idea.

Hopefully a new Han Solo... :D

Actually several of the designers are quoted in interviews saying that they DO skim the forums to get a feel for what players want and insight into the functional stuff of the game. It's a good place to keep a eye on how the game is doing. Now do they listen to our requests and design ideas? Probably, they can't. It would cause legal issues because then they have someone yelling about how they had the idea, and now they want credit and money. Wizards I know has actual policy on the issue.

Interviewed Alexy Davy, a lead X-Wing/Armada designer once. Asked him how much they look at the forums. They said they look now and then, but it's usually to gauge reactions about existing products, and not get ideas for forthcoming products.

That's the shortest post ever written!!!

Ok, I've seen people who posted that the designers read this very infrequently, so maybe what I should have said is " No, not very often".

I just meant that if he wanted something to be viewed now it wasn't going to happen right this second. Like I mean that they will already have something planned for the next wave, and they aren't going to rethink that even if they look.

You interviewed an Armada designer Rogue? Wow! I would have loved to do something along those lines!

Alex Davy is a native of Fargo, ND where we're based. The owner of our FLGS got him to show up at our store championship last year.

I hope they do something like endor and Ewoks :)

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they do a large box focusing only on rebels stuff. It could give you all 5 heroes from rebels, 6 if you include chopper, as playable heroes for the campaign and take you some of the scenarios from the show. It could have kallus, the inquisitor, generic imperial agents, etc.

I really do wanna see kyle and Jan in the game though!

I'm confused as to where the basis for choosing a particular place for a set comes from.

When I look at the core game, we get Luke & Vader. Totally makes sense. Then we get Stormtroopers, Imp. Officers and again, total sense. Royal Guards and Imp. Droids and eWebs show up. These don't play significant roles in the movies but do exist. OK, then we get Nexu. Where the heck do these come from? Jyn Odan, Diala, Gideon, Mak and Fenn Signis Gaarkan are completely new to me. Where do they come from? Trandoshans as a unit?

In Return to Hoth: we get Snow troopers, Wampas that were in the movie. Then we get the tank? Never saw it in the movie. Ok, it might have been there, somewhere.

Twin Shadows: Tuskens and Heavy Stormtroopers are relevant. But the Heroes that come with it? Again where do they come from.

In the end, it is tough to peg what FFG is using for the criteria to make an entire expansion when they are popping in characters from sources that are outside of the movie experience. Please don't get me wrong, it is not an issue with me. It just makes it kind of hard to theorize what will be coming down the pike when they draw from various sources to fill out the next wave or expansion.

I was a little shocked when a core game had so many unrecognizable heroes. I would have expected the main characters from the movies and then built on to that. I understand the marketing ploy they are using, but if I wasn't such a miniature gamer fan that wanted a Star Wars theme, I think I may have passed on this game because of that. I want to play with the iconic characters first and fill in after that. It just my personal preference. All in all, I really like this game! I will continue to buy expansions and such. As for what I'd like to see next, that would be: old Obi Wan, Lando, Stormtroopers from Endore, Emperor Palpatine, Luke as a Jedi, Jawas, Leia in original costume, Jabba's scum pirates types. I would like a mix of indoor and outdoor tiles, too. Cloud City might be the best theme to accomplish it. Lando is a must.

I was of the same opinion initially, and resisted buying. Now.... I want to slap my past self in the face and curse myself for waiting so long to get into this amazing game.
