Theories/Guesses on Next Expansions?

By FatherTurin, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

So what do people think is coming next for IA? I personally would love the following:

Shadows of the Empire: Xizor would be a great candidate for the support character that scum is currently lacking, not too sure what it could offer Imps or Rebs though (maybe Dash would be an effective Han Solo?)

Dark Forces: dark troopers, Kyle, maybe other force users of it goes forward into the Jedi Knight games

Jabba's Palace: again, mostly scum here, but Jabba and of course a Rancor would be amazing. Of course, a third desert themed tile set may not really be needed or wanted.

ROTJ/Endor: scout troopers, speeder bikes, rebel commandos, ewoks. This set is clearly going to be made, but what about the other ideas?

Jar Jar

It'll be a small box, so would have to be a climate that we already have access to. Most likely one from the core set. So sand, ruins, jungle, (imperial) interior.

I'd still like to see an expansion based on Dathomir which has a jungle climate, though thats most likely too obscure for the target audience of IA. Since that is the origin planet for Rancors they could use that figure as the 'BUY ME' bait like Boba Fett was in Twin Shadows. Other figures could be Nightsisters and Scout Troopers.

Another idea could be one based on Corellia/Coruscant/metropolis in which the campaign is more like a spy novel. The rebels could be fighting storm commandos, Mara Jade, and Garindan (or his species as regular figures)

Dark Forces is (as much as I'd love to see it) a slight possibility. However that would be alot of figures for a small box and again kind of obscure for the target audience.

Shadows of the Empire would be a bigger possibility, but still unlikely imo. With all the 'junk' on the sand tiles you could substitute that for Ord Mantell and use those sand tiles for the planet where Dash fought Boba Fett. You could have Dash and Leebo as heroes with Guri (and possibly Xisor) as villians. Imperials would just get something like Coruscant Guards and some FFG OC. The biggest problem is this would need to be a big box expansion since most of that story takes place on Coruscant and (except for indoors) we don't have any city tiles.

I just hope it isn't Endor with Ewoks... I'd like FFG to be creative/original and not just ride on the coat-tails of the movies, despite that seeming to be what most people want.

I am, personally, sick to death of the wastelands. I would love an urban set, be it coruscant, nar shadda, or corellia. For me, guerilla fighters belong in an urban environment, where they can hide from things like AtAts and orbital bombardments.

Seriously. Any rural area that smells faintly of subversive activity gets glassed.

I'm expecting another Han Solo mini, probably "General Solo". Our scoundrel Solo only goes to time unit 4, and it was around after Hoth he got the title.

I want to see them stick with the movies for now. Really want a small box Bespin expansion so we can get Lando, Lobot and Bespin Guards. Bespin set would be good for a Bossk and/or a Zuckuss & 4-LOM villain pack too.

What do those bounty hunters have to do with Bespin?

What do those bounty hunters have to do with Bespin?

Only that it and them are in Empire.

I'm guessing something that will include Lando... he's the only main character from the films that hasn't been released yet. The big expansion end of the year will probably be based around the final film and include a Jedi Luke. Also considering that each expansion has included another Bounty Hunter from Empire, Bossk might be next...

All Ewoks all the time.

I've written about it a bit before, but what I'd like to see and what would make sense with how the game is going, is a Yavin expansion. Forest/jungle theme, centred on recovering some Jedi Mcguffin from the temple ruins before the Imps tear the place down. It would be great way to introduce some more Force themes and Force User cards/figures into the game. Save al the RotJ and any largely Marc-centred expansions for a big box.

Same thing that Dengar has to do with anything in Return to Hoth. Seems FFG is bent on giving Mercs the full lineup of ESB bounty hunters and a shedload of random creatures before we can get anything actually useful for the faction in Skirmish.

You mean *another Yavin set, in addition to the Yavin set we already have. With more forest/jungle tiles, in addition to the crapton of forest/jungle tiles we already have. For the sole purpose of adding a force user searching for a Jedi mcguffin, *in addition to* the force user we already have searching for a jedi mcguffin.

Seems a little redundant to me.

Have I slept through a Yavin expansion already? Or do you somehow mean the core set is "a Yavin set"?

In that case, please elaborate on the freshness of Twin Shadows an its never-before-seen desert environment and a gripping and completely novel plotline of hunting down a specific imp officer and figuring out what he's up to.

Everything points to the next wave being a small box expansion. Fact is, we won't get an entirely new tile set and an expanded narrative in a small box expansion.

There's more than one way to do a Jedi/Force User hero. I'm pretty sure FFG has an entire roleplay product line based on that concept. And giving both sides more Force Users (or even non-unique Force Users) would be extremely beneficial to Skirmish.

Mate, you clearly need to revisit the elite nexu and pair them with the regular HK droids. you can make a horrible list with that lot. granted that having someone to give focus is also very useful though so you'll probably want to sub in 2 rebels. currently i am of the opinion that mercs are in a good place atm and i fear playing against them now.

I've been playing skirmish mercs since the core set, a bunch of double eNexu lists included. Mercs already had great damage potential before HKs. They're a cool unit. But what Mercs need isn't more beatsticks, but more card synergy and some support pieces. Otherwise you end up with every list starting with a 4pt Gideon tax and only one open alliance slot, and that gets old after a while.

Edited by Don_Silvarro

For me it's more like the 7 point Gideon + R2-D2 tax ...

but they're not designed to work together. bounty hunters don't often work together unless they are a serious team before the job

rebels have to work together to get the job done as they have a lack of men and resources

imperial have lots of cheap troopers, vehicles and tech as they rule the galaxy

mercs generally work alone and are individually strong in one thing, some even cause stress and fear etc due to their ferocity and determination to get their job done and get the bounty paid.

its all down to the fluffy side of star wars. have you considered that you might be trying to fit a round peg in a square hole?

No, I did not, because if a game is advertised to have three playable and fully fleshed out factions, I'd like it to have three fleshed out and workable factiins, and not just two factions and a dumpster that just holds all the random junk that doesn't fit anything else.

Also, thematically there's a wealth of very well organized criminal/mercenary/fringe groups both in the "canon" and in Legends material. There doesn't seem to be a similar problem with that in other FFG Star Wars game lines.

I'd like to see a rebels set, with city tiles that look like Lothal.

Core set: 2 new heroes, Walker, 2 imperial speeder bikes. Lothal city tiles.

Ally set: The remaining rebels characters as 2 person ally packs, and the ISB officer and Inquisitor as villains.

i don't think the mercs are a total dumping ground, I agree that it is a bit odd to have creatures in there rather than have them as neutral. I also don't think mercs are a dead unworkable faction and i disagree that gideon, c3p0 and/or r2d2 are an auto include taxation, nothing is auto include and to suggest that they are is a bit short sighted in my view

I too would like to see the cartoon rebels in this game.

I don't think we need another walker atm though, speeder bikes however! yes please! even if it is an upgrade card and model so that anyone can use them.

In these kind of threads, people often forget the distribution method of Imperial Assault (so far at least)

- Boxed expansions containing Rebel Heroes, Imperial and Scum Generics

- Associated wave containing Rebel Allies and Scum/Imperial Villains

- Secondary waves containing generics of all factions - not associated with boxed expansions

Anyway - I'd like to see Obi-Wan, Yoda, Palpatine, Lando etc all make it into the game eventually - but that'll take a while.

I think scum need a 2pt generic, like the other factions and some good support options at 2-4 points.

And I don't think they will do Sequel Trilogy content until 2 or all 3 movies are out. They've got plenty of OT content and the Rebels TV show for the meantime.

the next expansion is also due to be a small box as well.

2 heros, 4 imperial and 4 merc characters

allies 1 box of

villains 3 boxes of

my money is still on cloud city and jabbas palace in one wave

2 new heroes , unknown imperials, heavy hired thugs/guns e.g. gormoreans

Lando lobot

rancor, another bounty hunter and maybe the slug himself

I think the most logical is a smallbox expansion bespin and then a big box endor and i hope they do it like that.

Lando and his side kick guy with the head piece (srry cant remember his name)

And on endor we just have to have a ewok and the emporor :P

NOOOOOO!

I still think a lava set would be cool with some environmental hazards and lava...Creatures.

I want to see:

First Order Assault.

Seriously, those new Stormtroopers are sexy. Some flame troopers, and some riot troopers.

Sadly, i dont expect this till after episode VIII.

I would like to see this as well:

Imperial Assault Boarding Actions: Gozanti Cruiser

Special Tiles that form specific ships (and corresponding missions/skirmish) from the universe. The first being the imperial Gozanti, and its decks/halls. Add in new rules for turbolifts and it would be awesome!
