Specialisations with Social/Combat mix of talents

By Andreievitch, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Looking through the specialisation trees for EotE it looks like only Smuggler:Scoundrel has a mix of social and combat talents?

Are there any others in the other books? Have I missed a Specialisation? Is the only other option to have dual/multi Specialisations?

Enforcer. Marshal.

Archaeologist has some social talents (Respected Scholar).

Also, looking beyond EotE, the F&D Mystic Specialization Advisor has a very nice balance of combat and social talents.

Gunslinger, Gadgeteer, Marauder, Doctor, Performer, Merc Soldier, Enforcer, Scoundrel,

Gunslinger, Gadgeteer, Marauder, Doctor, Performer, Merc Soldier, Enforcer, Scoundrel,

I am not sure if you meant skills with this reply or talents? Looking at talents:

Gunslinger - all combat, no social

Gadgeteer - Intimidating - I don't really call that social. It is more an "attacking" social skill than a interacting that I was hoping for (ie more Charm than subdue)

Marauder - all combat, no social

Doctor - one combat, no social

Performer - social, sure. Combat is all dodging

Merc Soldier -No social

Enforcer - Intimidating again

Scoundrel - Yep. That's the one I did see

But thanks for your feedback ;)

Forgot Rigger. It's only one Talent, but it's kinda neat, plus the tree itself and the Career skills cover a lot of ground, not social skills but still worth a look.

That is a pretty cool one if we are in the ship a fair bit. I am not sure what out GM has planned as yet.

Well you just do your deal making in the ol landing bay next to your ship is all.

You might not "call intimidating social" but in this system it is... So it's not weird that people suggest those specs.

Perhaps you would be better of doing a dual career/spec? In that way you'd be able to really make something of your liking.

Yeah, that is what I am thinking. I am leaning towards Gunslinger / Scoundrel to keep it all in the same Career.

I always think intimidating is an interesting skill in any RPG. Sure, it is a social skill, but it doesn't really fall into the dictionary definition of "social":

Social - adjective

1. relating to, devoted to, or characterized by friendly companionship or relations: a social club.

2. seeking or enjoying the companionship of others; friendly; sociable; gregarious.

Anything Colonist, because of Unmatched Expertise.

Anything Smuggler, because of Unmatched Fortune.

Anything Force Sensitive, because of Force Influence's control upgrade to add force rating to Charm, Coercion, Deception, Negotiation and Leadership.

You don't have to be a 6 foot meat wall to be intimidating. Anyone who holds power over you can be very intimidating, a Corporate executive or Politician, a good Reporter. But if intimidating isn't your thing that's fine.

I have found the best way to make a specific character build in this system is to combine 2 specialisations.

Merc Soldier has the Leadership talents, as does Tactician.

But if what you're looking for is Deception, Charm and combat then Scoundrel is it.

Force sensitive Exile has a mix too, but it can't be your starting spec, so it's only good for bolstering abilities you already have.

Anything with "Well Rounded"...

Yeah, I'm kinda wondering how many Charm/Deception/combat specializations we actually need :) That is a pretty specific mix of capabilities.

You still need specs where lots of other skills can shine...Leadership, Streetwise, Negotiation, Cool, Coercion; these are all great skills with social applications.

Scoundrel + Recruit.

Scoundrel + Recruit.

Anything Social + Recruit.

Marshal has Good Cop/Bad Cop

Enforcer has Intimidating, Fearsome (technically), Street Smarts, Talk the Talk, Loom (more for aiding allies, though), and Natural Enforcer

Mercenary Soldier has those Leadership-based talents

Charmer has multiple social talents, but a combat-focused one would be Don't Shoot!, or a more supportive combat role in Inspiring Rhetoric

I'm thinking Charmer would be your best bet, and you can hop into Gunslinger or Scoundrel for your combat.

My Bounty Hunter picked up Marshal- now he is all but guarenteed to call bull on deception check automatically. (3 autofailures and a despair on a failed check)

I have to say, Gunslinger + Charmer is sounding like my kinda character :)

Thanks!

Best idea for a character. Going to do that now.

Or Dr. King Schultz!
