I guess it's useless the more I try to think of how to make it work.

I'd rather take 5 alphas with autothrusters, or throw in howlrunner with either Juke or swarm tactics. With autothrusters, you have decent protection at range 3, and then rush range 1 and use one or two as blockers. They actually have pretty potent firepower at range 1 (even better if howlrunner doesn't die before they shoot...)
