Obese Guri

By Verlaine, in X-Wing

Guri: Virago, Advanced Sensors, Push the Limit, Cloaking Device. 39 points. Options: Advanced Proton Torpedoes, Guidance Chips/Autothrusters.

The Cloaking Device is mainly used to get her in a good position. When decloaking, you do a decloak, boost, barrel roll, and a green move. During the approach you took the target lock, if you're in range you have a focus token.

Her biggest problem is the low pilot skill. If there is some way of raising it she'd do very well. I think she is best for fighting in a furball of generics. Might be extremely effective for getting inside the donut hole of TLT Y-Wings.

I wonder if people have tried this or similar builds and how it is rated.

Having played her a fair bit recently, I don't see the need for Cloaking Device, not when she's good at repositioning anyway. Though the build I've settled on isn't far off yours, points wise:

Lone Wolf

Advanced Sensors

Autothrusters

is 38 points, all in. And that's fine for me, at that point there's not really any more tricks to give her. It's just up to you to carry her through to the end game unharmed and she should be able to sweep up most things (though some need a bit more luck than others - Imperial arc-dodging aces can be a bit of a stressful time).

I love flying Guri; but I'm not so sure she loves Push the Limit (she doesn't need it as much as some ships do). I do like the idea of the illicit Cloaking Device on a StarViper though.

I try to free her from actions and make her as stressproof as possible, so she can go to town with her Segnor's Loops. Go Lone Wolf (as suggested above), Predator, or for a cheaper, slimline version Wired.

Guri - Wired, Virago, Advanced Sensors, Autothrusters, Inertial Dampners - 38

Guri - Lone Wolf, Virago, Sensor Jammer, Autothrusters, Cloaking Device - 41

I played a solo game and noticed she might be vulnerable during the first approach, so unless she has some support from jousters it might be difficult to find the ideal spot. Cloaking Device solves two problems in that regard: it gives extra defense and at least one jump to get into the position where she is best. It might not be worth it because of how unreliable it is, but the plan is that you only really need the CD for the first few rounds or so.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say: stay away from PtL: every time I have to deal with stress I feel hugely limited by the dial. It's all about picking the right spot to sit in and generate the focus for free.

Sensor Jammer all day, every day! And I prefer Predator, Autothrusters and the title to keep her lean and vicious. I don't really see a reason to try and take a lot of Ace pilot things, I just want her to last as long as possible against TLTs and keep her in as close as possible. She's already an ace against low PS stuff, no reason to load her up with stuff that the top tier aces need to survive... it's just not her role.

I guess my response to that is to either 1) sit back and wait for the rest of your squad to engage 2) flank to make sure you're not taking any shots 3) if you feel able, stick to range 3 poking while giving 'better' targets.

I do agree that the initial approach is key, however, but I do feel like 2 points for a dodgy Cloaking Device is overkill when you have so many tools on the dial and action bar.

For the PS issue, you could run a high PS with Decoy, say Talonbane with Decoy, Stealth Device and Glitterstim and two Binayres.

Decoy has the advantage over Swarm Tactics if you want to lengthen the tether.

Cloak is going to be be a good option on Guri, it will let her go from flying in formation to flanking in a single round and will allow her to disengage more easily when caught in a bad spot. Neither of these applications is screwed up too badly if the cloak burns out early as you still get the extra agility the round you cloak and the extra movement you needed when forced to decloak.

I wonder if people have tried this or similar builds and how it is rated.

I did experiment with almost that exact build when CD was first spoiled. iirc mine was PtL, adv sensors, AT, CD. Her movement was simply phenomenal but it was almost too much to think about at the time.. brain fry. End result I decloaked pulled all my flashy shenanigans and landed square in range 2 of rhymer with advanced proton torps. Poof.

Now I've settled for a voluptuous guri.. predator, AT, sensor jammer 40 pts. Not much more you really need. Might come back to CD again since it has some real potential. I think its gonna be better on talonbane or maybe palob though.

Best way to run Guri is naked

Voluptuous Guri... I like it!

Couldn't agree more.

Ptl is in my experience awfull on the starviperchas, predator is much better. You have terrible greens and the S loop make ptl a bad choice.

Nothing like s-looping behind someone with guru grabing a free focus and having re-rolls with predator.

It can be decent with Advanced Sensors. You'd use it much like you would with Corran Horn.

That said, I do think I prefer Predator.

Personally, I enjoy watching an opponent try to block her. Barrel roll with Advanced Sensors, full stop with Interial Dampners, laugh gleefully as you pick up a free focus and hammer them into oblivion...

If I'm playing with her at home then yes I would run her naked but playing at a store champ she needs something on her

I know someone who's been ripping the crap out of people with a Guri build somewhat close to this, flown with a Scyk and 2 Headhunters with Feedback Array. The Scyk is the dodgy one, don't recall the name. It's been working fantastically for him.

I played a solo game and noticed she might be vulnerable during the first approach, so unless she has some support from jousters it might be difficult to find the ideal spot. I play her the same way. Using Talonbane as the Jouster supported by Palob. This is a force that the opponent cant deny or he will get shot to pieces.

So when the opponent commits to Talonbane, Guri swoops in behind them and starts pounding.

I do however think Cloaking might be overkill, I am still on the fence...

My current loadout is:

Guri: Virago, Advanced Sensors, Autothrusters, Lone Wolf.

Palob: Blaster Turret, Moldy Crow

Talonbane: Crackshot, Glitterstim, Engine Upgrade

I considered removing Engine upgrade and loading the others up a bit more:

Inertial Dampeners on Guri or Predator instead of Lone Wolf.

And Hull Upgrade or Recon Spec on Palob,

I still have to try Cloaking Device and Stygium Particle Acc. on Palob though....
