Twin Shadows Campaign Report. <pic>

By Spidey NZ, in Imperial Assault Campaign

I have just finished another Twin Shadows campaign. it is a good length for a couple of weekends. my gaming group really enjoyed it.

Heroes.

Saska Teft

Garkaan Wookieson

Gideon Argus

Fenn Signis

Imperial - Inspiring leadership.

the heroes won all the missions, but every game was a nail biter, down to the last round or health point. I was playing imperial. inspiring leadership was ok. I bought optimal tactics late on, i wish i had got it earlier. it helps with damage output and re-rolls.on the last mission i had the 'as you wish' agenda. (add Darth Vader deployment card to your hand.) the heroes were overwhelmed with vader, Boba fett and Kayn Somos on the board.

the rebels kept taunting me with the New Zealand Accent of Boba Fett, when i was doing my best Jason Wingreen impression. the last mission ended with the rebels on 2 health points left. Gideons Rallying shout was always the same throughout the Campaign 'Suck it up."

the Inspiring leadership attachments worked well, when i stuck them on officers and leaders, and Vader went nuts with attacks, it was a good way to force heroes to eliminate low cost officers and then i could flank with Fett or other Villains.

Overall a great campaign and i set up the return to Hoth in the flavour text of the last mission, so they are all pretty excited to start. I had such a good time i drew a picture of the team. see if you can decipher what equipment they had.

Gideon either has his starting gun or the DH-17, and it looks like he is wearing armor. Is that a combat coat, or laminate?

Fenn looks like he's kitted out with a pulse cannon.

Gaarkhan has the prosthetic limb, and I'm guessing the BD-1 vibro-ax.

Saska looks like she has an A-280 with a couple of attachments, but I'm not sure what.

I can't tell any of what else they're kitted out with.

fenn had pulse cannon with spread barrel

garkaan had vibro ax and extended haft

saska had the Dlt-19, with overcharger and disruption cell. she also has an unstable device on her leg

Nice pic! Always curious how long these campaigns take for other groups to see if we are in on the average. How many hours would you say the campaign was total? Not including breaks and what not.

I think we were around 9 hours total on the last play through.. might be moving a bit slow.

2 weekends ago got through the Twin Shadows Mini Campaign in 7.5 hours. Experienced players helped it move quickly.

Does Gideon have the "Rallying Shout" skill?

8-9 hours i think.

Out of curiousity, is the twin shadows campaign more "balanced" than the core box game? I've only played fully through the campaign once but have gotten about half way through a couple of times before time commitments overran our campaign and we abandoned it, but found the campaign is heavily slanted to the imperials (I've played on both sides a couple of times each).

I'm mostly wondering as I'm finding it very hard to play as imperials and make the games feel "close". I'm steam rolling the rebels and have found the case to be that even when I'm playing as the imperials or the rebels.

I have a group of students I'm getting into the game and I naturally took the imperials since the "most experienced player" should play the imperials as there is a lot more to keep track of, but I'm finding that I'm easily handling the rebels unless I put in zero effort (I had to waste actions last game attacking doors and wounded characters rather than actually trying to win the mission). I'm also helping the rebels significantly...

To be honest. I always play as the imperials. I have no feeling about wining or losing. I make my games as thematic as possible. I do voices and add little bits of my own flavour text, I think i Dungeon master it a bit more, and do not necessarily play to win. I do try to make it challenging though, and if a i see a cool combination i will try to do it. if i do win, i try to make it down to the last dice roll or turn.

I found Twin shadows to be a bit more balanced, as i have played 4 core campaigns and 2 twin shadows campaigns. but i find its how each player plays the game. and my group are just there to have fun and high five.

There can be a lot of reasons for this. Some decks are just seriously over powered compared to others, such as Military Might is incredibly strong with the veteran and combat armor cards. Some agenda cards are over powered such as Imperial Industry. Some rebel players make very bad choices such as bringing Chewbacca to anything and giving the Imperials a crazy amount of threat. Sometimes rebels make bad choices like not going for the objective early enough or not resting enough. Sometimes rebels make bad choices with their money or XP, which is easy to do.

I think the main campaign is reasonably well balanced, although there are certain missions that are basically auto-win for one side or the other, which is dumb, but it requires the rebels to play smart. Sometimes for instance if the rebels know they're going to lose they should just tank the mission and grab crates, particularly early in the campaign, as the extra 200+ credits can be helpful.
