Store Championship results from Portland, OR...soooo many K-Wings and TLTs, owwww....

By xanderf, in X-Wing

Start time was 11am (we began a bit late) and it ran until a bit after 8pm. 36 players started, although one dropped a few rounds in. 5 rounds Swiss with cut to top 4 for elimination.

Full results on List Juggler over yonder.

General thoughts on watching over the course of the day (I was TO and not playing):

  • Rebels were very over-represented. 20 lists vs only 11 for Imperial and 5 for Scum.
  • SOOOOO many TLTs, just...wow. The top table seemed to have multiple TLTs on it pretty much from round 2, all day long. Final round included several TLTs.
  • Speaking of that final round, it ended up being a Rebel vs Imperial battle, which...huh. Interesting to see that, actually.
  • The winning list brought a Whisper + Palp-Decimator. A Whisper list wins?! (To be fair, Whisper did die in that last round - although that was apparently his first time dying the entire day...so much for that "nerf" killing him)
  • The Decimator appeared to be the far more common chariot for the Emperor than the reliable Shuttle. Indeed, of the six lists that brought ol' Palpy, only one put him in a shuttle.

It is so interesting to read about the different store championships and what builds are showing up. I went to the FFG Store Championship last weekend and rebel lists were not seen that much. Scum and Imperials were being used the most. I don't remember seeing any Decimators but there were plenty of shuttles hauling around Palpatine, including my list. I personally played against 3 scum builds and 3 Imperial builds in my 6 rounds. Imperials ended up winning it all, but there were 2 or 3 Brobot lists in the Top 16.

It's really R3-A2 more than the turret. The ability to double stress is probably the single strongest control option in the game right now, which is huge when you're trying to action-dependent ships. It turns off Vader, keeps that Focus off of Poe, and practically shuts down IG-88.

I had to play against that deciphanyom list round 1. Very demoralizing :/

Yeah mostly just stress hog. Seen only two true TLT spams in yesterday's store champ in NYC (3 ships with ks and hwks) but 3 Palp shuttles + double aces

The Phantom nerf just made it so that bads couldn't dominate with her.

People that actually know how to fly Phantoms well lost absolutely nothing.

Gained a bit of blocking potential, actually :P

Operates still "worse" IMO. She feels like a guessing blunt instrument versus a calculated ace.

I wouldnt say they lost "nothing" (even ace players benefitted from the old decloak alot), but Phantoms popping back up here and there means you can actually still do well with them. Which is great, the cloak mechanic is an interesting design that shouldnt be absent from the meta.

Final round included several TLTs.

I see exactly two TLTs in final round - on stressbot and HWK.

soooo many K-Wings

Hmmm. Two squadrons have 2 K-Wings and two squadrons have 1 K-Wing. This is hardly many.

Even more: there are more HWKs (8) than K-Wings (6) and at least one HWK was in a final round (versus 0 K-Wings).

That's four squadrons out of 20 Rebel lists - IE., 20% of the Rebel lists brought at least one K-Wing.

That would qualify, IMHO, as being just a bit over-represented.

Local meta diversity is very high. Hopefully wave 8 doesn't give us a single new monster to change that.

Monster beams ;)

I think it´s more of a rebel TLT thing. There seem to be plenty K-wings and Y-wings and some Hwks. Basically it´s a matter of TLT carrier preference.

They're all incredible and vastly different platforms, though

The K especially isn't complete as a mere TLT and will popularly run tactician to increase its versatility (or seismics on Miranda, which strangely so few people run)

With Sabine, we may see Ks without any turret to speak of :o (or autoblaster)

Thanks for TO'ing a fantastic event! It was the largest tournament I've been to so far and I had a great time.

How much did the Ion Projector and the Ion Bomb on Oicunn come into play here? How much of an impact did sensor jammer have on Whisper? I'm reluctant to give up the FCS.

So what I'm hearing is hipsters are playing TLTs even after they're cool.

The difference is all our TLT's are hormone free, 100% organic, locally grown and cost three times as much as they should. Unfortunately, they are not cruelty free.

The Sensor Jammer on Whisper made a HUGE difference. It basically made him immune to most of the worst that the TLTs could do, which is pretty important for a Phantom (with so little hull and shields)
