Improvised weapons

Are there any talents I'm missing that help with improvised weapons?

No, there aren't.

In the recruit tree, one that lowers the crit rating on them.

The only directly related talent is in the Recruit talent tree, it's called "Creative Killer". It reduces the Crit rating of improvised weapons by 2 to a minimum of 1.

Other than that an improvised weapon could be Jury Rigged. Any talents that affect the Melee skill would also affect melee combat checks with an improvised weapon. Talents that affect Ranged(Light) would affect thrown improvised weapons.

Can you apply "Creative Killer" talent on a natural weapon like Wookiees claws?

No. It isn't an "Improvised Weapon" it simply is an unusual weapon. Improvised Weapons have their own niche.

you can use the talent ironbody to improve wookie claws.
"the critical rating of the characters unarmed attacks is reduced by 1 per rank of iron body (to minmum of 1)."

Actually, in this system, Wookiee claws are non-funtional as weapons (or even as climbing aids).

yeah, you're right. due to the framing of the question I assumed wookies had a bonus to brawl by default. doesnt really change the outcome though.

I had the same deal. Didn't really think through the part about Wookiee claws, just the claw part.

Interestingly, Wookiees did have claws that could make decent weapons (probably using the same +1; 3 as Trandoshans and the like) but if they used those claws in combat, they were branded with the title Madclaw, which often resulted in their exile. I believe that that is why they weren't added as part of the statblock.

I would certainly allow a Wookiee PC the "Claws" ability, but the use of said ability would result in narrative consequences or potentially Obligation.
