Top 4 With Redline

By Jisforjets, in X-Wing

I still think punishers are terrible. I used a punisher that costs the same as Soontir. I could have had Soontir. Instead, I took Redline with proton torpedoes. Take that math!

Punishers are almost workable, against 2-3 small ships. Boost is probably still the best action in the game. And auto thrusters on punishers "can" leverage your resilience. Munitions are a mixed bag at best. Not sure the math on compairing proton vs concussion but they seem the most efficient for Redline. Cluster missiles are terrible. Assault missiles are really funny in a tie swarm match. Ion torpedo bears testing.

My favorite punisher load out is PS 4 -

You can't really optimize a punisher outside the context of a squad.

best BROs for redline are (you guessed that?)
ACADEMY PILOTS
nothing is as grand as blocked soontir catching some tasty morsel cluster missiles in da face with redline+FCS

but yes, it requires some thinking unlike said soontir >_>

Cluster missiles & Fire Control System work really well on Redline. Especially with Extra Munitions. Shoot with primary weapon at range 3, get 2 target locks, close in and get rerolls on everything. Great combo

With out the full list its hard to see how good this is

I'll reserve judgement until guidance chips is released.

The punisher can't be compared to an ace

Aces live (hard to kill); redline makes things die

I wish there was a good way to incress redlines ps

The punisher can't be compared to an ace

Well, there are aces that blow things up too, like Korran kHorn or Talonbane Mc'Awesome Cobra

(but yeah, I see, kNorne is a regenace with 5 HP and 3 greens)

But so far redline is among the two best ordnance platforms, being a bit outdamaged by Rental, but being much more versatile and requiring much less outside help.

Looking forward to Guidance chips, might make things very interesting. Redline, Horton, Renthal, Suhlak...

can't wait...

My experience with Redline has been very positive. I was recently able to strip a YT-1300's shields in a single round. Cluster missiles are pretty great with ole Red. It sounds like you should give him another shot.

The other good part is Punishers are pretty tough. Sure one Agi isn't great, but I've found 9 HP gives you plenty of time to fire off all of your Ordnance if you're loaded moderately.

The Punisher is my new go to ship.

So far, I am unbeaten with my Redline-Vader-Colzet-list. Redline comes with a standard loadout:

  • FCS
  • Extra Munitions
  • Plasma Torpedos
  • Cluster Missiles
  • Autothrusters

All one has to do, is to time your Alpha-Strike such as that Redline, Vader and Colzet get the first bite over Range 3 against the most forward positioned opposing ship with the TIEs being protected by focus.

Switch on this song and let the Macross Missile Massacre start:

Sure, Redline is usually the first to die, but not before he has unloaded his ordnance. Also the opponent has to divert quite some firepower that he can't use on the TIEs, thus giving them enough space to go as they please for the endgame. Where both shine.

I am very happy with Redline, and don't mind other players criticisms against the Punishiest. They'll speak differently of that ship once they'd been on the receiving side of a missile volley.
