Question about Wampa

By cjnj193, in X-Wing Rules Questions

If you get a good dice roll (say range 1: {boom}, {boom}, & {kaboom}) be sure to remain patient! Let your opponent contemplate if they wish to modify their defense roll, if they're looking at having 1 shield left and two focus results and you jump the gun to indicate you would like to cancel all dice results to deal one facedown damage card they will still have that focus token you may have otherwise forced them into spending. Had you been patient they would've had to spend it to ensure that you had to cancel. Otherwise you would've been able to not cancel to take the shield and apply a facedown and faceup damage card to their ship.

Wampa with a {kaboom} is exciting because you get a great game effect, but be careful not to jump the gun and wait for all the steps to be completed for rolling and modifying to ensure you're stripping tokens when you can and/or doing extra damage when possible!!!

It's basically the crack shot conundrum. Do you spend the extra token and save yourself from the possibility of being crack shotted? If so, they save it for later, and vice versa. It's nice to have it on a ship ability.

Am I aloud to use targetin computer with wampa to help preform his ability? So, in other words, using wampa with targetING computer, I target lock an enemy and spend it to reroll my dice, after getting no crits on the first roll, so I can try and get a crit to use wampa's pilot ability?

Sure. Go to town.

Turns it to appx 41% chance of being able to activate his ability, if you re-roll all non-crits.

Good combo.

Wampa paired with Youngster + Markmanship is an interesting combo. Add Howlrunner and four Academies to get a 98 point list. Not sure if it's competitive, but it's quite fun...

Youngster + Expose would be a hoot - but that's another story :-)

We Australian's may talk like complete morons in real life, but our typed vocabulary can occasionally be erudite. It's too hot here to talk in a longwinded fashion.

I thought erudite was an epoxy adhesive...

No, my bad, that's Araldite.

;)

Lets say my opponent rolls and cancels my crit. I then invoke the ability, however he has an evade token. Can he use the evade token to cancel the ability?

No.

It goes like this:

Wampa rolls attack dice.

- His opponent modifies attack dice.

- He modifies attack dice.

(after this step if Wampa has no [kaboom] results, the attack proceeds as for any other TIE fighter)

His opponent rolls defence dice

- Wampa modifies defence dice

- His opponent modifies defence dice (here is where the opponent has the chance to spend his evade tokens, but given that Wampa can cancel all the dice including those addd by spending evade tokens, he might well not bother)

Compare results

- If Wampa rolled no [kaboom]s, proceed as normal.

- Else, if he rolled at least one [kaboom] he chooses either:

-- Cancel all attack and defence dice results and deal one face down damage card to the defender

-- Proceed as normal, cancelling [boom] and [kaboom] results witth evade results, and dealing damage. He might want to do this for instance if the result was net 2 kabooms, or if he rolled even a net 1 kaboom against a ship with no shields remaining.
