Ok, so I officially attended my first store championship yesterday. During my third and more importantly my fourth game(getting my a$$ kicked), I was informed that at range three the defender does not get the bonus when attacked with a secondary weapon. I thought this was wrong voiced my concerns and Than another player alao said I was wrong. I would have called for a judge but time was short, the judges were not very responsive, and I wanted to win. So I just sucked it up and went on.

Did I get the short end of the stick? It would be nice to know, thanks!

No, this is correct. Secondary weapons do not receive range bonuses or penalties. SO no range 1 bonus, no range 3 bonus. For any secondary; cannons, turrets, missiles, torpedoes, Hot Shot Blasters, etc etc.

Any weapon that is added to your ship through an upgrade card, with the word Attack in bold is a secondary weapon.

Secondary weapons do not get range modifiers unless specifically instructed (Dorsal Turret, The Inquisitor).

Inquisitor's ability is primary weapon only.

And Dorsal Turret is not a range bonus, just a bonus for being at range 1.

And though this question is about range, for completeness if an attack (either with primary or secondary weapon) is obstructed by an obstacle the defender rolls an additional die. See page 14 of Rules Reference under Obstructed.

Also for completeness: The extra green dice from range and obstacles have are not Agility. An effect that reduces Agility does not affect these bonus dice.

So if Wedge is shooting at Oicunn at range three through an obstacle, Oicunn would roll two green dice.

• Wedge reduces Oicunn's 0 Agility by 1, to a minimum of 0.
• Then, range 3 from a Primary weapon gives an additional green die.
• Then, being shot at through an obstacle is an additional green die.

For a total of 2 green dice.

However, if Wedge were firing a Torpedo - which is a Secondary weapon, then

• Wedge would still reduce Oicunn's 0 Agility by 1, to a minimum of 0.
• The range 3 from a Primary weapon does not apply, because it's a Secondary.
• Then being shot at through an obstacle is an additional green die.

For a total of a single green die.

Thanks for the clarification and the examples! There are just a few rules that are a little fuzzy or I get that feeling of "am I right about this?" when someone contradicts what I think is the rule at a tournament. Like bumping, I always thought that if you bumped a ship you could not take your action or attack the ship that you bumped. you were still able to attack other ships. I was playing in a winter kit tournament and my opponent stated I could not attack his other ship. I was ahead in points so I let it go. Come to find out last sunday I was taken advantage of! People just are not cool sometimes! I have read the rules several times but in the heat of battle, I start to second guess myself. Plus I don't want to be the guy who is always calling for the judge or debating the rules.

Don't worry. We were all in that boat at one time with secondary weapons and how many dice get rolled. We've since changed ships many, many times over.

You are correct in your assessment of the bumping rule. You cannot attack a ship that you are in base to base contact with but you may attack another ship that you can legally shoot at (IE in arc or if you have a turret in range).

Your opponent was incorrect in that case.
