My first Scum Squad

By francis7, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I'm a fairly new player, I caught the bug about two weeks ago. I've played a few rounds with some friends, and now would like to try my hand at some competive play. I'd love some help in polishing up my squad list, my goal is to create something versatile, that gives me room to work with. My strategy would be to keep the Y-Wings close to Kath to concentrate fire, while having N'dru as a wildcard.

Kath Scarlet - 38

•Veteran Instincts - 1

Total: 39

Syndicate Thug - 18

•BTL-A4 Y-wing - 0

•Autoblaster Turret - 2

•Unhinged Astromech - 1

Total: 21 x 2

N'Dru Suhlak - 17

•Lone Wolf - 2

Total: 19

First of all, welcome to the game and feel free to mail your wallet to FFG at any time.

This list is alright to begin with, but it may not be the best idea to use the y-wing title with the Auto-Blaster turret as that locks you into a strong range 1 in arc as it simply doesn't have the range so i'd free that up to the full 360 threat to deter arc dodgers from skipping out of arc for a range 1 flank. However, it is difficult to make replacement suggestions without knowing what you have available (either yourself or your local group).

But for only 2 weeks of play, you're off to a good start, just remember to keep N'Dru away from everyone else.

I am also new to trying to play. Let me know what you think? I do agree with Gajavi the Auto-Blaster is not a good pick at only range one. I might get the Twin Lazer Turret from the K-Wing or wait for the Dorsal Turret from the Ghost.

Ok, I think I got it now. I'm between these two setups that I think might work. The only thing I'm missing is a Lone Wolf card, but I'll figure something out.

OPTION A

Kath (38)

Syndicate Thug (18) x2 - TLT (6)

Binayre Pirate (12) - Lonewolf (2)

OPTION B

Mando Merc (35)

Syndicate Thug (18) x2 - TLT (6) - Unhinged Astromech (1)

Black Sun Solider (13) - Lonewolf (2)

Greetings and welcome to the rat race. I'll give you some general input on your lists.

Option A- will probably work if your playing against other similarly new players. However it is stretched thin. Also a generic binayre cannot take lone wolf. On LW in particular you will find it very difficult to activate in a 4 ship list let alone 3. The TLT thugs will be your heavy lifters here since you really don't need to know how to fly these things to be effective from the get go. I would suggest losing the pirate to put some upgrades on kath. Rerolls would be a good start via K4 droid/predator. Repositioning while not necessarily mandatory are very nice to have once you start springing the extra points for a ship like kath. Either expert handling or engine upgrade work fantastic on her. From there you have plenty of options to customize.

Option B- pretty much a worse version of option A unless you have something particular in mind for your support ships and need the 3 points saved from kath. In this case UA. These look great, and they are, but on generic Y's they are extraneous as you'll find. Now for other more corner case builds like say kavil they can be golden. OR if you find people are consistently getting inside your R1 bubble and your trying to combat it I suppose. These would be better off as R4 aggros which are incredible.

Stealth Device isn't that good on a Y-Wing since it only bumps it's from 1 defense to 2, for the same cost you're probably better off getting a Hull Upgrade. You might also want to consider giving Kavil an offensive turret like TLT or Blaster as that would give you some extra damage while keeping some control with your other Y-Wing.
