Trying to decide on Vessery's wingmates

By Myth Child, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I’ve had this idea for a Vessery squad for a while, but unfortunately I never really had the chance to try it out.

-Colonel Vessery, Adrenaline Rush, TIE Mk. II (37)

-Scimitar Squadron Pilot, Proximity Mines x2 (38)

-Omicron Group Pilot, Darth Vader (24)

99 pts.

But now, after Wave 7.5, I’ve been thinking about how I might update the idea a bit.

First off, I want to try replacing Vessery’s Adrenaline Rush with Wired, since, in addition to the TIE Mk. II, it’d keep his dial even more open by letting him modify some of his dice even when he takes a red turn or gets hit with enemy stress. I’ve also considered replacing the Scimitars and Doom Shuttle with Crackshot Omega Squadron Pilots and Juke-Comm. Relay Omega Leader, respectively. However, I’d be concerned about the damage output and survivability of only having three TIE/fos accompanying Vessery.

Would I be better off keeping the Scimitars and/or Doom Shuttle, or can three FO fighters do enough work to support our man Vessery? I have not flown for the Empire very much yet, so I’d appreciate any general feedback and more experienced Imperial insight.

This is your current list (for ease of tinkering).

If you take out the bombers and the shuttle, you have enough for 3 TIE/fo's: Two Omega's with PtL and Epsilon Leader with Comm Relay.

Epsilon Leader negates your Wired so you could keep Adrenaline Rush there until Veterans land, then you install Juke and /x7

3 TIE/fo's can do some decent work. Firepower is not great, but its not bad, depending on how you kit them.

With comm relay, they are quite tanky, at least as tough as accuracy corrector advanced, but with a better dial and cheaper.

For example:

Vessery w/ crack shot, HLC & hull upgrade = 46

3 epsilons w/ comm relay = 18 x 3

100

This would be a tough list to take down. The epsilons can grab target locks without dying thanks to comm relay and they can block to make killing something easier.

Or:

Vessery w/ veteran instincts, hull upgrade = 39

Omega Ace w/ comm relay & Juke = 26

omega pilot w/ crack shot = 18

epsilon ace = 17

100

At PS 12, epsilon ace makes getting a target lock very easy for that first round of fire (although he's vulnerable without comm relay if he does so). You also lose the HLC, so overall, the list is less punchy...

I prefer hull upgrade on Vessery over TIE mk2 because stress is not really that big of a deal for him thanks to his ability. Even if he's stressed out and you need to bug out, his dial allows him to escape most of the time. With hull, he at least lives longer, putting his excellent firepower to good use for another turn...

Yesterday I took Vessery, Vader and Omega Lead for a spin. I recently got the Adv title and ATC so was hyped to finally fly the Sith Lord himself. Having seen lots of positive feeback on El Presidente, was also looking forward to flying him. Vessery was fiinal addition and I have to say, the synergy in this list is brutal.

May be this will be of help: this came first in Regionals at Swiss in Riga, but it is ordnance-based

Colonel Vessery + Heavy Laser Cannon + Veteran Instincts
Redline + Plasma Torpedoes + Extra Munitions + Fire-Control System + Cluster Missiles
Scimitar Squadron Pilot + Flechette Torpedoes + Munitions Failsafe
(100)

The inquistor and omega ace seem like good candidates.

My vote (after Veterans arrive) is:

(100pts)

Colonel Vessery (38)

veteran instincts (1) tractor beam (1) twin ion engine mk. II (1) TIE/D title (0)

The Inquisitor (28)

juke (2) TIE/v1 title (1)

Darth Vader (34)

adaptability (0) engine upgrade (4) TIE/x1 title (0) advanced targeting computer (1).

For now, before Veterans:

(100 pts)

Colonel Vessery (38)

lone wolf (2) twin ion engine mk. II (1)

The Inquisitor (28)

juke (2) TIE/v1 title (1)

Darth Vader (34)

engine upgrade (4) TIE/x1 title (0) advanced targeting computer (1).

You can replace LW on Vessery with something else, e.g. give Vader and Vessery VI. Or get rid of engie upgrade on Vader, no elite pilot talents and no TIE/mk. II, which leaves you 7 spare points for HLC.

I hadn't even really considered Epsilon Leader, but PtL on the Omega's he's supporting would certainly help keep them alive after they go for their target locks. I do like this idea, and I'm definitely looking forward to the Defender titles. Do you think Wired might still be something to consider anyway for the late game or when Vessery flanks?

Both look pretty interesting to me. Unfortunately I currently only have one Comm. Relay, so I couldn't run the three Epsilons like that. I suppose replacing them with Crackshot Omegas might not do as well, since they'd be less defensible when they take their target locks, but maybe staggered locking and some careful flying could mitigate that?

Nice! I'm kind of fixated on flying Vessery with Omega Leader, but I also wish I had those TIE Advanced upgrades, as they seem like a good fit with him, too.

Sweet! I've been thinking about how I might run a Punisher with Vessery as well, and Redline seems like a natural candidate. I definitely need to try something similar out. Thanks!

Thanks. I'm definitely looking forward to the possibilities that the TAP and Imperial Veterans will bring to the table.
