Moments you felt the most sorry for the opponent?

By Kalandros, in X-Wing

Sure, playing 4 TLTs is pretty dirty. But lets ignore that and go with moments you felt you really played dirty or really felt bad for your opponent.

I'll go first with the following:

Wampa shot a mint Kath Scarlett - Lieutenant Colzet had a target lock on her, flipped Blinded Pilot.

What happened every single turn after that until I had dealt with the rest of the list? Blinded Pilot was flipped down - Kath couldn't attack, Colzet flipped it back up at the End Phase - EVERY. SINGLE. TURN. Didn't even need to target her, just make my move within range 3 of where she ended up the turn before so that I could take that TL - didn't want to shoot down those shields and add more face down cards too fast!

God it was so evil!

Pretty crazy how that one card decided how the game went and finished.

Isn't Colzet supposed to be flip a random facedown damage? If so, how did you keep flipping the same card over and over?

Probably the only crit.

Guess you didn't read what I wrote properly :P

Kath had 4 shields, full hulls, Wampa shot his ability - an automatic face down card if you cancel a crit, followed by colzet's flip ability on the only card available, and of course I went after the rest of the list and didn't want to damage Kath further until necessary since she was pretty much disabled permanently unless I messed up my action from a bump or stress but that didn't occur.

Enemy whisper came around the flank and clipped a debris field. In addition to the stress, preventing ACD, she also took a shield. Missing with her attack, my hotshot blaster got 3 hits, and crackshotted her evade.

Then I torpedo'd Zeta leader the next turn leaving my opponent with just fell, vs my whole list.

I have been on the receiving end of this. Not Fun.

the first time I played a new player to our group my Phantom gave his 1 shield Miranda hit crit crit crit through a rock he rolled blank and finished her of with direct hit and major explosion. the following week Kavil with BT put 4 natural into his K wing with no shield one was a direct hit. both times those rolls changed a losing game my way I felt bad doing that to the new guy

Whisper pulled up within range one of a Y-wing that had lost it shields but had not taken any hull damage. 5 dice, 5 hits, no evades... bye bye Y-wing

When he realized I had cut the brake lines. I obviously didn't get to see his face in that moment, but I dream about it at night when I try and sleep.

Was playing BroBots at an SC last year, and ran into Whisper, Echo and a TIE in the final round. Figuring aggression was my only chance to get ahead in the game, I threw caution to the wind and charged him.

First round of shooting, his TIE Fighter blanked everything and died.

Second round of shooting, Echo rolled 1 evade out of 8 and died.

Third round of shooting, Whisper rolled 0 evades out of 8 and died.

Total game time: 11 minutes.

I was in a tournament match and the other guy rolled absolutely no evades the entire game. Not a single one, we were both amazed.

During the finals match of a Store Chamionship in the opening engagement I one shot an A-Wing with a Vader Procket and Boba fired a range one behind him on another A-Wing and one shot it in the same turn.

Man, that beats my record of 15 minutes for a game. 2x RGPs and Echo verse 3 HLC + FCS daggers. Poor B-wings... The never stood a chance against the might of the empire.

To this day, that game is talked about in the local store when trying to get a quick game in.

At GenCon 2013, I hit my opponent's Dark Curse + Stealth Device with Seismic Charges. On the next round he clipped an asteroid, rolled a crit, and pulled a Direct Hit. He died without firing a shot, with his Stealth still working.

I fired a Hot Shot Blaster at an untouched but tokenless Soontir (still with Stealth) on Friday night, rolled three hits. Opponent rolls 4 blanks. There but for the grace of autothrusters would have gone Soontir.

Store championships last year, top 8.

First roll of the game, my opponent wins initiative, he gives me initiative for very justifiable reasons. An intense, hard-fought battle ensues, and the game ends in an exact draw. I played my a$$ off for that draw!

He is eliminated because whoever has initiative wins the tiebreaker. Never has a more worthy opponent fallen to such absurd circumstances, he was definitely the best player there that day.

I'm gonna feel sorry for the guys I face with my Scum TLT Y-wings in Sundays tourney in Chicago.. lol.. it's a real.. Richard list.. lol

Not like it's some fancy new list, but when they came out with the TLT, I like many others, and a friend of mine saw the potential, and thought it was a better scum list than Rebel.. that unhinged astromec is awesome for it.. so.. I'm going with the intent to place high so I can hopefully get one of those shiny challenge coins..

At an Imdaar Alpha event, I got paired with someone playing his first tournament in the first round. My opponent jousted my 6 ship TIE swarm (all PS3 or higher) with his 4 Gold Squadron y-wings with Ion Turrets. On the first engagement on the 2nd turn, two of his y-wings were at range 1 of 3 of my TIEs. Of the 15 red dice I threw, 13 were naturals hits, 1 crit, and 1 focus - which I had a token to convert to a hit. My opponent blanked all 6 of his green dice rolls. The crit was Double Damage, of course. He lost another ship in each of the next 2 rounds. I took 2 damage the entire game. I apologized profusely for having such hot dice and really felt bad for that being his first experience with tournament play.

That Kath Colzet one is just glorious.

Whenever my opponent doesn't pay enough attention to their dial, and manages to fly themself off the board by picking the wrong direction for a 3 turn.

Y-Wings jousted with a Tie swarm. His APs K-Turned in behind me. All 4 of my Ys dumped Seismics and took off. Howlrunner and the Black Squad K-Turned with the AP. The bombs went off and killed his entire squad.

I took a long shower after that one.

This is very thematic though. If there had been a TIE fighter in that scene with the seismic charges, it would surely have been torn to shreds by the wave and asteroid debris.

Just after the Phantom came out there was a small local tournament. I hate the Phantom, and this was back when Ion weapons made them cry. I built a 2x B Ion cannon, 2x Y Ion Turret list. I never flew against Phantoms that day. However I did fly against a Fat Han list. I walked Fat Han over every asteroid on the way off the table. My opponent was so pissed he actually quit the game. Quit the whole game, not just the one in progress.

I honestly felt sorry because the list was not designed to just take Han and walk him out the door... it was meant for Phantoms (did I mention I hate them, and I still do).

I've never made someone quit a game before.
I was devastated.

Thankfully we still play games, just not X-wing. Mostly Armada right now...
