Has TLT spelled the end of large based ships? How can we make them competitive again?
Large Based Ships vs. TLT
Sorry, noob here. What did TLT do to large ships?
No.
Twin Laser Turrets is a 3 dice attack that deals one damage if it hits but you get to attack twice. Large based ships usually only have up to two dice, so that is an almost certain two damage each time. With two or three y-wings or k-wings, large based ships go down fast and hard.
TLTs make it much harder for large ships to boost out of shots (large bade size = greater movement after boost; TLTs largely don't care unless you boost into range one)
TLT being two attacks greatly reduces the effectivness of once per round abilities such as c3po and evade tokens
And I don't know if they actually did (though def in the forum's eyes). My go to "**** your fat han" is a rebel regenerator ala Miranda or r2d2 corran or poe.
One on one with a fattie, you're basically immortal. Had Miranda go toe to toe with an emperor kenkirk today, and after several grueling minutes she had ground him down from 16 to 0. She still had 3 hull.
That's 42 points (really 38 with just TLT + c3po) beating out near sixty in a dice off (which is what turret v turret always devolves to )

Its almost exactly what Paul won worlds 2014 with.
Edited by HistoryGuyThey changed which large ship builds worked.
The change to scoring probably is as responsible for large turrets becoming rarer as TLTs do.

Rear Admiral Chiraneau and Dash Rendar both made it to the top 16 at Worlds and they still do pretty well outside there too. They so big that their TLT deadzone is quite large and they can use EU to slip in pretty effectively. And that's just PWTs, the Lambda Shuttle and Brobots are both all over the place, while the Firespray was uncommon before TLTs and is still uncommon.
Han and the YT-1300 absolutely dominated the meta for a long time and are still powerful, so I don't shed any tears for them.
So that leaves the YV-666. What'll make it more competitive? Well, it can take multiple crew and the Punishing One is launching with a ton of new crew options, so let's wait for that belated preview article.
The point is - large based ships are fine. Brobots, in fact, are arguably the most resistant anti-TLT ship of them all.
The parts of this wave and the next are seeing some things in it that could give high agility ships a hard time, so fear not, all ships are going to be equally vulnerable.
I was just in a tournament using both Han and two TLT Y-wings, and I can say that the real threat to big ships isn't TLT...
...But the **** half-point value.

Brobots are large based ships with Autothrusters.

And 3 Agility. Not to mention the ultimate in synergy between them.

No.
Tournaments in my area have a good proportion of large ships, and the most recent store champs had large ships in 3 out of 4 of the top spots, and double pancakes in two of them.
Big ships are as popular as ever here. The MOV change was needed and the TLT is settling into the local meta as just one more weapon among many.
Overall we have a very varied meta here and I'm grateful for that!
