possible new player to buy in have questions

By Tirion, in X-Wing

I didn't read all the posts .. I can guess at what they'll say.

I only play original trilogy ships. I've only ever bought original trilogy ships. I have at least 2 of each (and 1 each of large ships). I have plenty of fun with those upgrades. Proxy want you want from other sets. I'll send a PM

So in your opinion would I be at a disadvantage playing casually with this stuff?

If you are playing casually, you can proxy as many cards as you like. If you find you like a certain buildout, you can go and acquire the cards that you need.

If you are going to try tournament playing, then proxies won't help you. You will need the actual card for tournament play. However, many gaming communities have seasoned players who often help out other newer players with a card or two that they are missing.

For the beginning it's just enough.

although nothing super-effective, there's plenty of good toys there to play with.

some fun things can be found in other expansions, like blister T-65 or T-70

other things like Falcon are also worth considering.

when Ghost arrives it's a must-have for a rebel (despite being pretty ugly and being a cartoon mary sue brick'o'hull)

because it's a behemoth that WILL have a really really unique bowling gameplay (and things with really unique gameplay are must_have_ones)

So in your opinion would I be at a disadvantage playing casually with this stuff?

there's no such thing as "disadvantage" in casual play!

That's the great catch: you don't need upgrade cards like competitive play (it requires you to take some upgrade combos, limits pilot choice and so on)

You have FUN things and fly them as you see fit.

Some of the most FUN ships out there were never truly competitive.

You'll have great time with the things you've listed, and that's the main thing about the game. Fun.

No not at all. You could honestly do well in a Store Championship with just that. Heck at one point the World Championship was won with the stuff you'd have.

Biggs and Red Squadron X-Wings and 2 Dagger Squadron B-Wings.

For casual play you won't find there are any issues at all playing with that. Don't be afraid to proxie though, especially for upgrades and/or cards you may want but aren't sure about.

So I went with a new starter an x, b and y wing and the rebel aces. Then I am buying an x wing out of the original starter with the pilot cards from a friend.

thats a great start. all youll be missing is r2d2 from the old starter really.

If you can also get a Twin Laser Turret upgrade card from your friend, it can significantly bolster Y-Wing's performance.

Apart from that, get whatever you like. Try to fly with those first, and see which ships you like the most. Then we can discuss further where you'd like to expand next based on your preferred playstyle.

And..

Rebel scums sparked incessant chaos and offered an illusion of freedom across the galaxy. The Imperial is striving to maintain peace and order. Enlist with the imperials today and become the hero you are meant to be. We. Need. You.
